Unforgettable - In More Ways than One
on February 20, 2015
This adventure was rapidly becoming a potential member of my Most Favorite Dr. Who Serials of All Time... up to the end of the 2nd episode - then the "gargoyle" came on screen. LOL ... Sigh.
I loosely paraphrase Philip Hinchcliffe when he said, "When you find yourself having to rely on a man in a rubber suit, you are asking for trouble." I think this may have been one of those poignant examples of what he was referring too. Still, a pretty cool adventure as long as you take all the disparate elements in stride (the loopy, THE PRISONER-esque Maypole scene being a funky yet extraordinarily memorable one). I really enjoyed the storyline, character interactions, and of course that legendary line from the Brigadier.
After finishing it, along with commentary re-watching as well as the docu-specials, this may not have joined into the Hallowed Halls of my personal Best of the Best of Early Doctor Who (my jaw dropped, not in suspense, but in "LOLwhut?" too many times), but it certainly has a high recommendation for unforgettable Doctor story telling.
