I received this play set as gift. I am an adult collector of Lego and a big fan of Doctor Who, so it seemed like a no-brainer. Even though it is NOT a Lego set, I thought the quality would still be decent. Boy, was I wrong! About two-thirds through building, I couldn't find a piece. I looked through everything, and it wasn't there. It was small though, so I continued on. Later, another piece was missing. I finished (as best I could) with half a dozen pieces missing from the set, but about 20 unnecessary pieces left over. Not just small studs, mind you, but plates and tiles of various sizes, as well. If missing piece weren't enough, the general quality of the set and pieces left much to be desired. The fit of the pieces were not the best in some places, and the coloring was off on several of them. It was really easy to tell with the yellows. A bunch would be stacked together and there would be two or three in the set that were a completely different shade. The only cool part about the whole set was the Tardis. I am definitely returning this set for a refund... it was not worth a fraction of the cost.

Just one more complaint (for possible collectors): As is the habit nowadays, they included a sticker sheet instead of printing the bricks. I'm not a fan, but I am certainly used to this. For one of the steps, they wanted you to affix a large round sticker to the center of four tiles. Right over the seams. Good luck ever taking that section apart (while retaining the sticker).

Really great set, lots of clever construction, and fantastic details. It's also extremely, enjoyably large :)

The only complaints I have are that the second wall was quite flimsy compared to the first wall, and fell apart several times in the later stages of attaching it to the main control room.
The other complaint would be the color on some of the smooth pieces. 5 angled smooth sections for the balcony came in the brown color, when they were supposed to be gray. No harm done though.

Ok, so those 2 negatives, but far out-weighed by the many positives. The care in the design is delightful, so much great attention to details on the console, and the wall designs, and the windows/doorways in particular. it's really just a spectacular set, and perfect home for the character building figures! Now, if we could just get the manufacturor to give us a few more tardis models! I would love to have the interior of the first Doctor's tardis as well :)

Here's hoping there will be a 3rd wave released!

Piece of garbage. Ridiculously difficult instructions (for seasoned Lego builders) with poor engineering where one connection is supposed to hold an entire wall up. Pieces aren't well cut and don't fit securely together.
THIS IS NOWHERE NEAR THE QUALITY OF A LEGO

Sadly, Lego does not yet make Dr Who products so we were excited to try this. My 10yo son really liked it. But after weeks coming back to it again and again to attempt to finish it, we have finally given up.
Usually it takes us an hour or two to put together elaborate Legos but this thing is just unworkable on many levels.
Save yourself money, time and frustration. Don't buy this!!

My daughter is a lego fan and a Doctor Who fan so this was a win-win. However although lego-compatible this is not Legos. It is an awesome set in that it is intricate -- over 100 steps, and the final product looks amazing. My very capable 10 year old who puts together adult lego sets independently needed some assistance with interpreting the instructions for a few steps. It took hours to put this together. The other problem is that a block piece must not have been properly inspected because it was misshapen and could not fit together. There are quite a handful of additional pieces so luckily we had a back up of the piece. Also, build it where you want to display it because it is not easy to move without breakage, the type of breakage that is not necessarily easy to put back together. Despite the problems, the set is great if you know what you're getting into before hand which I did because I read other reviews.

This is a large "lego" type of set for Dr. Who fans out there, it is a fun set, however some of the pieces don't really want to stay together as they should. My son and I did end up getting out the Krazy glue to hold the final project together. Much fun was had with this set for sure

Being a huge fan of Legos, I took a chance on this "lego knockoff" product hoping it would have the same quality and fun as the real thing. I was pleasantly surprised. Personally, I had a lot of fun putting this together and when I finished, it was so cool looking and fun to play with, I had no desire to take it apart for some time. For people wondering if this is lego compatible, YES, its nearly identical, and I had no problem using legos with this set or vice versa. It is pricy, however, you have to consider that you are getting a 600+ piece trade-marked set, with 4 mini figures and many rare pieces, so at $80, it is about the same price as a lego of the same size and quality. Bottom line, if Lego made Doctor Who legos, I would buy them instead, but they don't, so its this or nothing.

Of course, no product is completely perfect, this has a few flaws I will point out. One I would say, putting this set together will make you appreciate Lego for its easy to read instructions, flawless pieces, and organization. These left a little to be desired in this set; the instructions are difficult to follow in many places, several of the yellow pieces have varying shades, and although the set comes with pieces split into about 12 different bags, there is no organization to the bags, forcing you to just dump them all into a pile and search, search, search. None of these things for me took a star away, and I did NOT have any problems with the looks or the sturdiness of the finished product.

If you like Dr. Who and Legos, I think you will like this set.
