The first thing you'll notice is how the head looks ABSOLUTELY NOTHING like what is pictured here on Amazon.com, or even on the back of the box itself. Not even close!!! Now yes, I do know that collectible action figures don't always look exactly right, but this thing looks like they just took the head off a Barbie doll, died the hair red, and stuck it on. Karen Gillan would be crying if she saw this monstrosity.
UPDATE----> ***CONFIRMED***: This photograph is of the ORIGINAL PROTOTYPE MODEL. ***THIS IS NOT WHAT YOU WILL RECEIVE***
You can buy an alternate replacement head from Big Chief's website (bigchiefstudios.co.uk/site/amy-pond-alternate-head.php), that has sculpted hair, which looks much better than the loose stringy hair from the original. The face looks much better, but there's another huge problem - it costs $41.00 USD (current conversion rate as of 4/29/2014)!!! At the bottom of their site, it talks about what at first sounds like it's free. But you must look closely - if you buy the figure & replacement head at the same time from them, SHIPPING is free, not the head itself.
The body is fairly nicely detailed and poseable, and the included accessories are a nice touch. There are interchangeable hands to hold the various items. The boots fall off very easily, so make sure you don't lose them. The knee joints show too much, but that's to be expected on action figures.
The best part is the actual box itself. It's amazingly detailed, with bright gold lettering and beautiful pictures of Karen herself on the sides. It has an almost invisible gatefold that opens up to display the figure. Inside that are more pictures of it, which of course show it as the advertised version.
This was going to be the greatest of all my collectibles. It's too bad this was such a cheap knockoff that was falsely advertised several times. It's going back tomorrow (I'd send it today, but the UPS store just closed).
One thing that I was very dissatisfied with is that the face you see in these pictures -- that is DEFINITELY NOT the face you get. I don't know why. It doesn't make sense to me that they would show one picture on the box and of the doll with one head model, but then give another one with the actual product.
I love how poseable she is, though I don't quite understand how the stand works with her. Luckily, she stands on her own, so I don't need it. Despite the face issue I have, though, she's still prominently displayed along with my two other twelve inch Doctor Who figures, (not from Big Chief.)
I do want to get Ten and Eleven from Big Chief, so overall, I am happy with the product. It's just that if you think you're getting the face shown here, you'll be in for a disappointment.
The rooted hair is nice, but for those fans who want it, Big Chief will also provide an alternate head in the future(one with sculpted hair). The Amy 1/6 figure from Big Chief is very poseable, and can thankfully stand even without the provided stand.
My main criticism is that Big Chief could have picked a better "iconic" costume for Amy, perhaps the red shirt one(or even the fan favorite "policewoman Amy" outfit). That is a minor nitpick really, as I love this figure! Hopefully Big Chief releases other female Doctor Who figures in the future. :)
The alternate head sculpt(with sculpted rather than 'real' hair) is amazing. I've compared the two, and it's not just a simple change of hair. The sculpted face itself looks different. The tinting on the skin looks more natural, and eliminates that slight 'doll-like' expression Amy had before. The new hair improves an already awesome figure even further.
However, delivery from Big Chief Studios was prompt and efficient.
