Why take Zinc Carnosine Complex with PepZin GI?- Zinc Carnosine Complex can help relieve occasional gastric discomfort. - Promotes a healthy stomach lining and stomach environment. |
How does it work?- Zinc Carnosine Complex has a unique ability to exert its effects directly on the cells of the stomach lining. - Zinc Carnosine Complex supports the bacterial balance in the stomach as well as help maintain a healthy mucosal lining. |
Studies have shown improvement in multiple symptoms including occasional heartburn, tenderness, diarrhea, and constipation.*
Ingredients:
PepZin GI** is an exclusive, patented complex of zinc and L-carnosine that was first developed in Japan and has been in use since 1994.1 This special chelated form of the mineral zinc has a unique ability to exert its effects directly on the cells of the stomach lining. When zinc is complexed to L-carnosine, it dissociates in the stomach at a slower rate. This prolonged existence allows it to maintain its gastric support effect over a longer period of time.2 The proprietary chelation process along with excellent scientific research make PepZin GI your best choice for supporting gastric health.
Benefits:
Helps relieve occasional gastric discomfort*.
In a multi-center, placebo-controlled, comparative double-blind study, 299 participants with symptoms of gastric discomfort were randomly allocated into one of four groups for 8 weeks.3 Of the 258 people who completed the trial, 136 were in a group receiving zinc-L-carnosine. Of them, 92% experienced support for symptoms including occasional heartburn, tenderness, diarrhea, and constipation after 8 weeks.
In another study, 28 individuals with gastric discomfort were given a zinc-L-carnosine compound and monitored for 8 weeks.4 Change was rated on a scale of subjective and objective symptoms. After 4 weeks, 68.4% reported significant support for occasional gastric discomfort (as rated by the scale), and after eight weeks, the number was 68.8%. Over 60% of these individuals reported significant support well after discontinuation of the supplementation, suggesting a lasting effect of the zinc-L-carnosine compound beyond the time it is taken.
Maintains a healthy GI environment*.
The mineral zinc in PepZin GI is a critical component to a number of physiological processes in our bodies. Some of these functions include growth and metabolism of cells, cell repair, and maintenance of carbohydrate and lipid metabolism.2
PepZin GI may also be able to favorably maintain the bacterial balance of the stomach and GI tract. Studies suggest that the zinc-L-carnosine compound may have effects on certain strains of bacteria and, therefore, may be able to help maintain a GI environment that is favorable to health.1 By supporting the bacterial balance in the stomach, PepZin GI can help maintain a healthy mucosal lining.
Supports the health of gastric cells*.
PepZin GI has been studied for its ability to prevent free radical damage to gastric cells. In one such study, rat gastric cells were exposed to ethanol and hydrogen peroxide, two substances known to cause free radical damage to living cells.5 Cells were bathed in hydrogen peroxide, ethanol, zinc-L-carnosine, or a combination of zinc-L-carnosine with either ethanol or hydrogen peroxide. While the cells bathed in ethanol and hydrogen peroxide solutions all exhibited signs of damage due to free radical production, the cells that were bathed in zinc-L-carnosine were largely protected from the effects of free radical damage. The authors concluded that the zinc compound directly protected gastric mucosal cells from oxidant stress.
Additional animal research further confirms the gastro-supportive effects of PepZin GI.6 The stomach lining of rats fed zinc-L-carnosine compound prior to being exposed to monochloramine, a known pro-oxidant (producer of free radicals), fared better than the stomach lining of rats from the control group that were exposed to monochloramine without the zinc-L-carnosine compound beforehand.7.

There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later.
Then recently the Nexium stopped working as well and I was left with the choice of trying to come off it or going back to my doc to be RX’d something else. I decided to try coming off with the aid of a supplement to see if that helped at all. After reading the positive reviews about this product I decided to try it out.
I started using this daily 2 weeks before phasing the Nexium out. Even with the first dose my stomach started feeling better. Then I started phasing out the Nexium. I was nervous because I was not looking forward to throwing up stomach acid again but guess what??? It didn’t happen this time. I was able to phase out the Nexium gradually over a week! I did use Pepcid on the rare occasions the reflux attempted to flare up, but these incidents were so mild and rare that the Pepcid took care of it no problem.
I strongly feel that this supplement was the key to my success. I have tried to come off the PPIs for years and wasn’t successful. But after using this supplement I was able to finally stop using those meds. I can’t believe it.
My plan is to continue the med for another month or so while my GI tract is still healing. I will update this review after this so I can share if this works for me in the long run.
The real irony is that Nexium keeps your body from absorbing B12 and B12 helps you rid your body of toxins. So the Nexium was like putting a band aid on a gaping wound. It was making everything worse for me.
So, now to the review: Once I added this to my diet, I took if for a couple of months and was able to get down to 1 Nexium. I then took it for a couple of months and tried to come off the second Nexium. Just like when I took the ACV, it worked for about a month then my symptoms got worse. I called the Doctor to got back to 2 Nexium and (Thank God!) the prescription got hung up because insurance does not want to fill a 2/day prescription (runs around $1000). I had to just survive on OTC PPI's, DGL Licorice tablets and Gaviscon. I had one miserable week, then I noticed I started feeling better. I slowly weaned myself off those and now I am medication free (as far as acid reflux goes). I, honestly, can hardly believe it. I no longer have any acid reflux symptoms and have been medicine free for several months. The best part is that once I quit the Nexium my body became "regular" again. Nexium was adding to an already severe case of chronic constipation.
I am not saying this product alone will rid you of your symptoms, but I can tell you that I literally tried everything and did not see real results until I used this product. I could probably write a book from all the information I have gathered from books & websites (and trial and error!) in my search to heal myself. I recommend, if anyone is plagued by the problems I have described, that you first find a Doctor that looks for the ROOT CAUSE of your problems and considers your diet part of your treatment. Then, be willing to spend the time and money that it takes to fully recover. Only a total lifestyle/mindset change helped me get better. And, believe me, I got lots of flak from family and friends when I started making these changes. But now they all are coming to me for advice because they see the profound change in my health.
GOOD LUCK!
Update: April 2015
Still Nexium free!!! After this review, I continued to struggle with occasional constipation and nausea (nothing on the level of before) so I decided to try going Gluten Free. It appeared to be at the root of my troubles. The constipation almost ended over night and I am rarely nauseous. I don't know if it is the gluten or the types of food that are made from wheat, and I really don't care! I do think it is important to not just replace these foods with GF substitutes on a broad scale (many GF processed foods have a higher glycemic index). The occasional baked good is OK, but eating whole foods is so much better. Processed food is processed food, don't let the marketers fool you by saying things are healthy just because they used some healthy ingredients like quinoa, lentil, black bean, etc. If the label has more than 3 - 5 ingredients, just avoid it. I have "fallen off the wagon" on exercise a time or two and find that when I get back into working out 4 or 5 times a week, I just feel better and have more energy. I no longer take tons of supplements. I still take a high dose probiotic and I take digestive enzymes with meals. Other than that, I take OTC Methyl Guard Plus for my genetic condition (2 codes on the MTHFR gene) and zyrtec for allergies. However, my allergies are much less than they have ever been and I think it is probably because my intestines are healing. I hesitate to even share this, because it is just so weird, but another thing I have done that (to my surprise) makes me feel much better, is (brace yourself) weekly coffee enemas. It is something I had read about and avoided for years until my doctor encouraged me and I am glad I gave it a try. It is supposed to help detoxify your liver and mine had been overloaded due to my genetic deficiencies. I think they are like Drano for the intestines. I really feel more comfortable and energized on the day I do them. Hope the update helps.
This compound has been a gift from God, and I have not felt this good in a year. It will not solve any underlying problems but it does wonders for the stomach lining.
In addition to avoiding foods that irritate your stomach, take 1 of these capsules with every meal (3 capsules a day total). I felt a difference within a week and after doing this for a month I'm well on the road to recovery. I still cant have foods containing caffeine, but I no longer am nauseous or in pain.
I'm on my third bottle, feel free to ask questions. I know how much of a struggle stomach issues can be.
UPDATE: I'm proud to say that after being on a PPI (Prilosec) or H2 Blocker at some point for the last 15 months, I have finally been able to get off of both them! It's a long process, and I've been taking 2-5 of these a day for the last year. I HIGHLY recommend this product, it helped me tremendously.
UPDATE 2 (6/20/16): I have been blessed so much to be able to stop taking these. After 2-5 per day for about 20 months, I no longer need them. I'm continuing a slow recovery and adding back foods into my diet that used to cause me pain. This product was a key part in aiding the healing of my gastritis. I still endorse it - I've bought probably 15+ bottles over those 20 months and I would do it again.
Here are my gastritis BLACKLIST (foods to avoid) and GOODLIST (foods that are safe and gentle for me). This is a copy and paste from my food journal. Your mileage may vary, so always try foods from my GOODLIST cautiously.
