How to Use: First, brush your teeth. Fill the cup tip of The Doctor's Tooth-Stain Remover with your favorite toothpaste. Before pushing the switch, use the tip to spread a little toothpaste over the teeth. Do not use pressure - This product is engineered to stop spinning if too much pressure is applied. A light touch is all that is needed. Do not spend more than a few seconds on each tooth. As in the dental office, some splattering may occur. How Often You Should Use It: You can use The Doctor's Tooth-Stain Remover as often as needed to remove the stains and plaque that normal tooth brushing missed. This product is not meant to replace dental visits. You should see your dentist regularly. Installing Batteries: Simply unscrew the plastic top from the base. Drop in two AA batteries into the base, making sure that the positive (+) ends of the batteries are facing up. Screw base and top securely. Do not overtighten. Care of Your Tooth-Stain Remover: After every use, remove the cup and clean with water. Never immerse the motor in water. Use extra tip (in different color) for another household member or as a second tip for yourself. Wipe outside with a soft cloth or tissue.

Once the insulating paint with which the inside of the battery holder is removed, Model Master Dried Paint Solvent seems to do well on this, so as to allow the tensioning spring to be properly inserted to allow the full insertion of the two required AA cells and proper tightening of the holder into the device itself, the thing works fine.
And yes, I am writing about the Dental Concepts Tooth Polisher.
Bought two, same problem with both!
Would not mind hearing why a stainless steel battery holder was thought to need an inside coating of insulating paint, considering that this does rather defeat the purpose of having the batteries in the first place as one of the functions of the holder is to provide continuity up to the activation switch, which insulating paint makes just a bit tricky.
Does this explain the *** rating?
