What I liked best about this book were the names of the dogs. I thought it was just a good story; one kids would like to read. The pictures are good. Unfortunately, the end of the book is really sad.
I like dogs so much that it was fun to read about what a dog’s life would be. This dog was a good dog because it had an amazing life. I found it interesting that the dog won lots of dog shows and had saved a 5 year-old kid’s life. I’m not going to tell you how he saved the kid’s life. You have to read the book to find out. It was a cool story to read and learn about this dog’s life.
I would recommend The Dog At the Gate to kids that are going into 3rd grade and like chapter books. This book has 25 chapters. So, I hope you read this book. I think it is a really good story.
The language of the book is at 4th grade level and above. The author includes words that may challenge a child to look up the word for its meaning. I believe this is good for the child. Books should inspire one and stretch one's mind. This book does this.
As an adult, the book is an easy read but also a meaningful read. If you own a pet, this may explain some of their behavior. I have tried some of the teaching techniques used in the book on my own dog. They work!
A good book for young and old.
