I take my dog on frequent road trips but didn't find this book particularly helpful. It's geared toward owners of small dogs who are interested in cutesy gear - not the case for me and my 80+ lb lab. The recommended hotels are on the pricey side and many of them have weight limits. I'm not sure how the destinations were picked as not all of them sound that dog friendly to me (dogs only allowed on beach after 6pm? Restaurants that don't allow dogs on the patio? Etc). Overall, I was a bit disappointed at the lack of useful advice and the affected writing didn't do it for me either, but given that I don't own a handbag-dwelling chihuahua I'm probably not the intended audience anyway.

This book only covers a few destinations in each region. It also caters to smaller dogs. Several of the featured hotels only allow dogs under 20 lbs. This book is not for those who would be looking for places to stop with their dog (e.g., hotels, parks, etc.) on their way to a destination. It is not in any way comprehensive, and there is no clear method for the selection of the few destinations listed. Very poorly done.

Love the cover by the way.

This book is so jam-packed with information on traveling with your pet in the US and Canada, that you don't need to look anywhere else to find what you need ... unless you want to travel outside these areas.

Appreciate how the book is broken down into regions and the easy writing style of the author. But surprised her little one isn't on the cover! Beautifully designed and laid out book as well with colorful headings and shart images.

I also appreciate that this book has CURRENT information, as this type of data gets old within a few years.

I'll be getting a copy for one of my friends as well (as I don't want to share mine).

Just recently received this book and I am very excited about it. I have two labs and it is very hard for us to travel with them because alot of hotels do not accept dogs over 25 pounds. Mine are 68 and 72 pounds. This book has it all broken down by City, State, Hotel, Restaurants that you can eat at with you babies and etc. Great info book for anyone that loves to travel with their babies(dogs).

I was looking for ways and methods of traveling with our dog. This book presents places to take your dog - not how to get there. We do not want to put our dog in airline baggage areas. Amtrak will not allow our dog to travel with us. We are elderly and cannot drive him with us across country.

Okay, I don't have a dog but everyone one I know---relatives, friends, coworkers--do and this book was the perfect gift for all of them (there are only so many dog sweaters one beagle needs). They LOVED it and are planning to pack up their pooch, and their book, and hit the road this summer. And there are some high end haunts in here too! I've learned that nothing is too good for pet parents, and destinations across America have taken note. Read through this comprehensive guide and you'll be amazed at what is available for pet setters (yappy-hours, blueberry facials). I can't wait for the international version of this 'tail-all' travel guide!

This is a basic book that highlights cities and regions that are particularly dog friendly. Lists places to go and dog friendly restaurants and places to stay. To me it's best when I'm traveling to a place I don't know as I find the write ups are brief and a bit basic.

I have the "Dog lovers guide to the Pacific Northwest" and the "dog lovers guide to California" and they are a much better buy. They have many more locations and cover all levels from luxury to roughing it as far as lodging goes. I don't think they are from the same group (National Geographic) as this book. I have not reviewed this entire book but the few cities I perused the lodging mentioned is on the very high side. Surely, there are some Best Westerns, etc. somewhere. Beware, this book only covers a few cities/towns in each of six areas in the US, plus a brief mention of 9 cities/areas in Canada. California, for example has only 8 cities/areas mentioned. It is as if NG looked up about 50 cities on the web and copied it into a book. There was a fantastic picture of a bunch of dogs in a pool on page 217 but it is not identified other than it is in Las Vegas. A waste of money, unless you like an overall sampling.
