Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Gr. 5^-8. The special relationship between a dog and his young owner is the focus of McMains' detailed manual. Filled with common sense and technical information about training dogs, the book will interest YAs, parents, and instructors. McMains covers obedience training from preparation through all types of competition and offers a wealth of practical advice, including information on the whys and why nots and record keeping. Although the writing is wordy and occasionally repetitious, it is also casual and humorous. Each chapter ends with a motivational quote reflecting the author's philosophical approach to the care and training of dogs. Many black-and-white photos of young people working with their dogs add appeal. Susan DeRonne

Best dog training book I have found. It might be a bit old-school for some people. I am happy with the results. We now have a well trained one year old cattle dog who is fun to be around.
