While the Dog Walker explores some adult subjects, it does so through the eyes of Benny, who is incapable of seeing the world in anything but an innocent and sarcastic light. I found that this book was a very quick read and the main character to be highly endearing. Benny was the main driver in making me want to find out what happens. At points I felt the story did not reach the crescendo/plot climax that that I expected, but even with that it made for an entertaining read. While I can see how this book would not be for everyone, if you want a inspirational story about an outcast engaging with the adult world for the first time and coming of age, then I recommend this story.
The sometimes hard-to-accept ideology of the main character was palatable due to the perceived intellectual challenges, and lack of exposure and experiences made it strangely difficult not to embrace the character’s humanity. I read this book from cover-to-cover on a Caribbean beach. I have already recommended it others.
