Cooper’s brother has just gotten put of prison and is back to his old crime of drug running. His alcoholic dad is trying to stay sober and Cooper is chasing a feral yellow dog. A woman who rescues cats has her pets stolen, but then she goes to work as Cooper’s assistant. He’s romantically involved with a neighbor who rescues horses. And a miniature donkey keeps escaping his yard and causing mischief.
This kind of police work is not for everyone.
Getting over Argus’s death won’t be easy, but then neither is coping with his dysfunctional hometown.
Like all of Susan Wilson’s books this is a tale for and about people who love animals and welcome them as important parts of their lives.
This particular book was so moving with stories of grief, disappointment, heartbreak. The main character. Cooper, is so likable you are rooting for him from Page one. The little yellow dog's journey was so heartbreaking. Get your tissues ready and sit down for an incredible read.
