First, it is huge! Second, it is so comfortable (if my dog did not try to join me, I could easily see sleeping on it for a nap -- it is so beyond comfortable!). Third, my Great Dane (and his new half-sister) like it. However, I will say it is not their first choice -- for some reason they tend to choose a small 36" round bed that I thought the cats would like. But one or the other, or both, do sleep on this bed every night and take naps on it -- so they do like it very much. Forth - and most importantly - it does NOT sink in after use - no cold floor feel! (my GD is 125 pounds and have been using it for several months -- I really find it hard to believe this will ever sink).
It is amazing for the price, not only in size but in quality (makes me wonder how much mark-up those other companies are getting for their very expensive large beds). The covering is really durable -- tough denim, I'd say. And although neither of my dogs are chewers when it comes to their bed, I'd say only the most determined dog would rip it (I'd never say that it can not be chewed through, of course -- some dogs never give up once determined - but I encourage my dogs with other toys and bones so they never appear interested in beds or furniture). But the quality goes beyond the cover. Most dog beds have a cover over a light bag of filling -- not Dogbed4less! The bag that holds the filling is also tough - with one side water-proof, in case your dog soils his bed. That does make the bed have a 'sound' when first getting on it, but not alarming or noisy - and of course it can be flipped to the non-waterproof side.
There is only one con, but this also goes to the quality of this incredibly priced bed - so I wouldn't change it!: it is extremely heavy! I like to wash my dog's bedding every week during house cleaning -- even if not 'dirty' (I just like a clean looking house :-). If you are strong or have a SO who is, you'll have no problem -- but being a small, older women, it's a challenge. I always tend to put the dog beds somewhere so the pups can't get on it while the cover is being washed (although I did buy two beds, a third cover was in the box) -- but lifting or even moving this bed is no small feat! It is very heavy and bulky - of course. Then there is a bit of wrestling that's needed when the cover goes back on - due to its size and weight. But again, because of its quality and size, I would not change that a bit -- it makes for a good work out. :-) So, as you can see by my photo, I now put a fleece blanket on top -- I think that will allow me to go a few weeks between washing the cover. The material fluffs up during every replacement of the cover -- not that it ever really sinks or anything -- but it does loft up again when the cover is removed and replaced. Although it gives me a chance to lie on it again :-) to settle it down again, once the dogs are on the bed again, it looks just like the picture in the ad (see my photo - the day after cleaning - and a 2-dog-night) - no high loft and no sinking.
One word of caution: as other reviewers have mentioned -- make sure you are ready to set up this bed before you take it out of the box or the wrapping!! I ordered two and they were in one box -- although I did not open the box for a week or two, the box looked like it was going to explode - it did not. :-) Remove the cover from its wrapping and lay it out on the floor - then start removing the plastic that is binding the bedding material. It expands quickly -- but not instantaneously -- you have a few minutes to fold it as indicated in the instructions (provided with the bed - do follow the instructions!) -- but do not linger. Once inside the cover, unfold and set it aside (do not use for a day!) and let it loft. You'll be glad you did as I suspect those that had problems, may not have followed the instructions that are included.
It does take up a lot of floor-space, so do measure the area, of course. You probably will not want to return it once it has expanded - probably cost more than the bed to ship and you'll never reduce the size again into its original box. :-)
But I think this is the best dog bed that I have ever purchased - I'm glad I bought two for different floors.
My dog is an anxious chewer. It turns out the only soft thing he hasn't destroyed is a cheap body pillow. For folks with dogs who chew, this bed is most likely not for you, and here's why:
My dog got the bed open in 2 days. That's not what the issue really is, though. He's done that before, we cover things up, it's still good for a while.
This bed is made of shredded foam. SHREDDED. not one big hunk that I could clean up in 10 minutes and move on. I came home and it was like a memory foam murder scene in my living room. Or like a trillion foam cockroach infestation. It took me an hour and a half, a broom and a shop vac. And I'm still finding bits stuck to everything (my clothes, the furniture, the outside of the shop vac). My only hope now to rid myself of these seed sized bits is to move, and my wife says we can't.
I understand that for the size of this bed and how fluffy it is/was, the price is incredible. Ive seen dog beds advertised as chew proof for $300, so I'm not complaining. I think, though, it's important for other people to know the struggle.
I ordered a new, canvas cover and I'm going to stuff all the rest of it back together and blah blah blah give it another try. My dog absolutely loved it to death.
