This DVD set contains all seventeen episodes from Season Two. Here's a list of episode titles:
Jet vs. Jet
Gun Kills of Vietnam
The First Dogfighters
Luftwaffe's Deadliest Mission
No Room for Error
The Bloodiest Day
Dogfights of Desert Storm
MiG Killers of the Midway
Death of the Luftwaffe
I love both seasons. I watch them over and over again. If you want to watch air battles about famous aces like Robert S. Johnson, Robin Olds, Lee A. Archer and more. With air battles about the P-51, P-47, F-4, F-86, F-15, Mirage and more.
If you want to read about aces and air battles, then buy Osprey's 'Aircraft of the aces' books. If you want some action yourself, then buy 'IL-2 Sturmovik' and/or 'IL-2 F.B., A.E.P.', and if you want to watch air battles, then this is the documentry!
I'll always buy History Channel's 'Dogfights' series.
This is not a live action recreation, but a computer-generated one. Yet, I felt my stomach lurch at the sudden, sharp turns these WW1 planes achieved, unlike anything you would see today. A large portion of pilots shotdown in combat died in their planes' crashes and this brought home to me the real risk these brave men, on both sides, accepted when they began their careers as fighter pilots in the Great War.
Flying by the seat of your pants in an open cockpit, while fighting an enemy whose face you could often see, is a type of aerial combat we are unlikely to see again. Even in the heat of battle and these men fighting each other to the death, there were incidents of real chivalry and respect between enemies. After he was shotdown behind enemy lines, even the "Red Baron", Manfred Albrecht Freiherr von Richthofen, was given a full British military funeral by the Australian Flying Corps.
While we may more readily remember the fighter pilots of the Second World War and our own pilots of today, the men who took to the air in the First World War were truely the Knights of the Sky and we may never see their kind again.
This set contains 5 discs. Disc 1 contains the following episodes:
- Kamikaze. Before this, I did not know the Japanese had suicide rocket plane.
- Jet vs Jet: On May 20, 1951, in the sky over North Korea, for the first time of air combat history, American jets fought against Communist jets.
- Thunderbolt: American workhorse planes in WWII.
- Gunkills of Vietnam: Skyraiders vs Mig 17 and F4 Phantoms vs Mig 21, in Vietnam.
In short, this is One of the BEST that MY MONEY CAN GET in terms of air combat or history DVDs. If you love air combat or history, you don't want to miss this one. It's much more interesting than just reading history books.
