A) It arrived broken. At the plastic pivot point on one of the sides, the plastic was broken. So it only hinged on one side. For the price, it wasn't worth dealing with a return in my opinion. It just went straight into the trash.
B) It was considerably shorter than my last scooper. I am only 5'10" but would still have to bend over quite a bit to use this scooper.
C) For a product described as Jumbo, it certainly wasn't. There was no way I could pick up a great Dane poop with this scooper, without making a huge mess.
Overall: If you have nothing bigger than a golden retriever, and are 5'4" or shorter, this jumbo scooper may work fine for you (assuming it doesn't arrive broken). For me, however, it was a total bust.
The single hand design is brilliant. My son, whose chore is poo-duty, doesn't complain about the awful chore anymore, due to the use of this great device. It has a very strong grip (even after us using it for the last 3 months), and is a decent height.
Pro: Design is excellent, good grippers, teeth that are wide enough to ignore grass and not pull it all out like some models - but close enough so small pieces don't escape, one handed operation (so the other can have good control of the bag/bucket).
Cons: I'm only 5'1" and it causes me to lean over just a bit. I would imagine that for a taller person, they'd be aggravated witht he bending involved. It also doesn't have a good way to clean it, given it's tight "jaws."
I'd definitely recommend this product over ANY shovel, two handed, or "jaw" gripper I've used before.
I will say that deeper grass can make it tough to get the poo up. But you can't blame that on this. My pooch is only about 30 lb and sometimes the smaller pieces fall deep down. Then when you try and get it it breaks up and starts smearing everywhere so you quit & move along to the next pile.
My one concern is that it's very hard to scoop with... you need to pull up on the red bar (inner) to open the scoop, place it over the poop, and then let go to release and grab the poop. So for each poop, you're squeezing the red bar twice to release. It takes quite a bit of power to squeeze the red bar- I'm a 35 yr old female with some issues with carpal tunnel, but overall I think I've got good hand strength. It's not a HUGE issue for me and maybe it will loosen up over time, but I was thinking this product might not be the right one if you're an older person or have a lot of issues with arm/hand strength. What WORKS is that it does a good job of cleanup thanks to the tight tension. I like that I don't have to hold a scoop closed once the poop is in the scoop.
