What a beautiful story of a dog who came from a horrible situation but got a second chance at a better life and the people he came to protect, love, and finally become a family with. Highly recommend this to any dog lover and anyone who loves how dogs and humans coexist as one unit. Beautiful story and I look forward to more stories by this author.

From the very beginning when Duke, a golden retriever puppy, is abandoned until the end you will drawn into the lives of everyone he meets, There is such a strong bond between humans and their dogs. It’s hard to tell who saves who in this story or who needs who more. But we learn there are always second chances in life and in love.

There was so much about this book I loved. Duke the Golden was number one, of course. Dogs; they bring us together and give us such unconditional love. The characters were wonderful and so well developed. I had a special spot in my heart for Arthur; he’s gentle, like my own dad who also has another thing in common with Arthur (can’t give away spoilers). I could just feel the love of a small town where I’d love to be part of such a community. Loved it all!

I loved this story, I have always had pets, always been happier with my cat or my dog next to me. I had a big loss too and my little dog slept on my bed and spent every waking hour close by my side for years while I nursed my partner with his illness. Wh3n he passed she still kept me company until it was her time to go. The story explains all the sadness, anxiety and emotional help a pet can give us to heal. Everyone should grow up with a pet, they are the very best companions. I heartily recommend this book. Be prepared to shed a few tears.

I found it enjoyable if somewhat long winded and repetitive of one of the main characters sad history with her daughter and her need to keep travelling without settling anywhere for long. Overall it is an easy read without a great deal of depth yet lots of warmth.
