Some of the most remarkable writing you will find in a book of unknown as well as famous authorship. Yet, some of the lesser known writers such as the last short story in this anthology is still a great surprise. Deserving a place in the Nebula collection of the winning sci-fi and reminding the readers of the great philosophical writing of Asimov and Bradbury, "The Way of The Soul" is a short story that is a future classic! Short biographical notes are at the end of each work describing each writer. Another great touch from the editor - are the paired quotes from great writers of the past at the end of each work.

Indeed, all knowledge can be found in the wag of the tail and all love contained in the man's best friend. These many dog related works are lovingly compiled and have been donated towards the cause of rescuing and finding homes for dogs through the Humane Society. Each of the authors no matter how famous, and you will find works by some of the best known writers on animals as well as best known entertainers of talk shows on television over the years - Roger Andrew Caras, Steve Allen and many others, donated their time and loving labor of the finely crafted word. In each page, a common thing will be found that is not so common - love. Love for the dog but also love for love itself. Isn't the meaning of life found in that word? Isn't the happiness of it one remembers in the end?...

You do not need a winter eve by the fireside to enjoy this book although that image applies well. Each work in these pages was selected for its warm feeling and you will hopefully enjoy its warmth many times and on many reads. This book is one you will want to read many times and out of order. My advice is - start at the end and come back to the story at the end again afterwords. It is worth the entire purchase of this book and this book is wonderful.

Reading it was such a pleasure. I cried and laughed with those heartwarming stories and admired all these people who really love dogs, and who can appreciate what a dog can give you. A special gift you can't get unless you live with those little Friends. Almost all the books I have about dogs deal with their characters and ilnesses etc, but this book has a special place on my shelf because it speaks to the heart. I highly recommend it.
