I ordered 2 of these for my 2 boys and, for what I paid, I am impressed. By the way, I hesitated for months before going ahead and actually placing the order :)

Fully assembled

Is just that. Believe it or not, it take less than 3 minutes to get the bookcase out of the box and... unfold it into a fully assembled bookcase. It does come with instructions on how to do it but they are not needed.

It's true. It's made of real, hard wood and it appears to be built to last.

48Hx23Wx12D means that it is FOUR FEET tall which is not very tall. You get 4 decent shelves that are about 2 feet wide. The unit looks exactly as it the picture show it.

Quality of workmanship
----------------------
On TWO units, I noticed one chipped area, about 1/4" by 1/4". I'm not sure if it came that way or, maybe I was responsible for chipping it. Other than than, everything seems to be well glued and screwed in place. Again, for what I paid, I have no complaints.

Overall evaluation

Knowing what I know today, I would order these. Note: I got free shipping. Without free shipping, I would probably hesitate.

This bookcase is very cute and fits perfectly in my office. The color of mine is definitely dark; some people said it had a lot of red in it, but mine does not. I have it stocked with books and some decorative items and it's pretty solid, doesn't lean forward, and the shelves are sturdy and don't sag. I took off a star for the slight damage, and also because, while this is cute, you can see the metal hinges and shelf fasteners, and it detracts from the general appearance. Since it's in an office and not in my living room, that's not a huge concern for me, but it doesn't look as nice as it could.

Stylish, handsome -- and no assembly required!

Battered and weary from having assembled way too much cheap particleboard furniture over the course of a lifetime, I searched the Net for affordable, well made, decent looking bookcases. I found these and took a chance.
Even with standard shipping, I had my bookcases within 72 hours...and opened the boxes to find the bookcases simply wonderful, with no assembly required! You just stand them up against the wall at a 70-degree angle, prop the sides into place and let the shelves fall into place.
I'm not sure which I like better, their no-assembly ease or their tasteful good looks. (Made in Thailand, they really do look like they came from Pottery Barn or Pier One.)
Buyers with crawling kids or inquisitive toddlers should probably secure the bookcases to the wall for safety, but that's true of all free-standing bookcases.
Nice furniture, fast and cheap -- with no assembly required...imagine that!

good but a little short of excellent

I was generally satisfied with the product. It did have a little ding in the side - I'm too lazy to send it back - so I just place that side toward the wall. It looks great for the price - it's a cool style and it's a nice step up from any partical board shelving you might have in your home. I'm thinking about getting another one. It's folding funtion is also a big plus for me. No assembly - stylish - stable frame - and easy to move = a good rating. A note of caution: you might just want to upgrade your shipping with this one - it seems like a lot of reviewers have been recieving them more damaged than mine.

UPDATE:
I did get a second one and they look good next to each other - I didn't have any problem with the regular shipping. The second one didn't have a ding - although it was slightly a different color - but subtle enough where I don't even notice it anymore -- maybe just a difference in light exposure.

Received quickly and in perfect shipping condition! (I thought shipping was secure so maybe those that received damaged goods should fault the shipper?) Unfold sides, fold down shelves, and voila! I've put it in my bedroom for the LCD Flat Panel and dvd player. Hopefully it holds up!

Remember, however, this is a $60 piece. I have hardly a complaint, but with a CLOSER look you will see workmanship is not perfectly aligned in some places. Due to this I had to fiddle with the shelf grooves to lock in place (and one still doesn't fit quite right). Otherwise it's a deal and better than what I had before - nothing!

I bought this because I got my fill of "make-it-yourself" furniture with all my IKEA brand stuff. This bookshelf looks great and is simple to setup. The shelf comes already built and folded up. All you do is 'open' the shelf up and it's done. It literally takes 30 seconds. Plus, it looks nice and holds a good amount of books, dvds, cd, etc.

The only knock on it that I have read from other reviews is that it came with chips/cracks in it. To me, that's a shipping issue, not an issue with the quality of the product. Blame UPS, not Dolce on that one!

I'm a big fan of this shelf and am ordering another one as I write this!

i desperately needed an inexpensive bookshelf to hold a ton of reference books that i own, but also complement the decor of our living room. well, this was just perfect. the shelves are tall enough to accomodate all of my large books...and even if the lower shelves weren't tall enough, the top shelf is open. personally though, i like to use the top shelf for decoration. i also love the fact that it's open in the back, so the bottom shelf i left for my modem, router, adapter and the cords string easily through the back.

beautiful dark wood color, and it was so easy to set up straight out of the box.

i guess it is in high demand though b/c i had to wait for 3 wks before it was sent to me.

Sharp looking and, yes, downright sexy. Perfect piece to add warmth to your room with a bit of wood while keeping that same space light and airy, due to this bookcase's lightweight (yet sturdy) and open design.

Absolutely no assembly! Just open and unfold.

The dark walnut blends well with espresso and creams. It also holds its own next higher-end furniture. I absolutely adore this bookcase and, if I can figure out where to put more, will be ordering another one or two or three.
