Pim has been stolen and now belongs to Elder Prest. But is she safe with him? Will he use her and abuse her the same way Master A did or does he want something entirely different from her?
"I’d become lost, just like Pimlico. And I turned to the only thing that had saved me—accepted me. Crime."
Let's start with Elder. This man has demons. He has secrets about his past and how he became the way he is today. I want to know more. I need to know more. We get just a tad bit of insight into his past but not quite enough to figure out exactly what happened. I like him though. He's fascinating to me.
I knew going into the 2nd book that Elder was someone we could trust. He really pushed Pimlico to her breaking point at times but not in a vicious way. Well, I didn't think it was in a malicious way.
"I was worth living. I was worth surviving. And I would never again let nature or man take that away from me."
Pimlico just seems so damaged to the point of no return but she proved us wrong. With everything she's been through, I expected her to completely give up. But she's a strong, tough character. She may be mute but she stood up for herself. She hasn't spoken in years and I was reading as fast as I could to see if we ever get to see her speak.
The attraction between her and Elder was there. The connection seems strong but Pim is going to have to fully trust him and I think she's getting there.
I'm worried that we will get no real answers until the last book and there are 3 books left still. I'm curious to see if she ever gets complete freedom and if she will be able to go on living a normal life. I have no idea what else could possibly happen to where there could even be 3 more books but I'm excited for them.
I happened to stumble upon Pennies when an author was giving it away for free in her newsletter. My plan was to read a little bit of it until another book I wanted released, which was the next day. Yea, I couldn't put it down and now I crave these books. I need them all right now because I'm losing my mind with having to wait.
We get to find out more about Pim - her thoughts, her fears, her wants and needs and why she continues to not speak. Even though that is frustrating to read at times because you want her to start talking already! Pim doesn't know what Elder wants from her and is he her savior or her next master?
Elder tries to do the right things but we get to find out more about his past and what makes him the man he is. He knows that even though he saved Pim, he really wants her for himself even though he knows that he can't survive her. He tries to force Pim to speak so there is a struggle of wills between the 2 but the relationship between the 2 is what makes the story so captivating.
This series is so addicting that I can't put the books down!
I was witless.
I was utterly spent and ripped apart.
The song was an eternity.
The song was a second." - Elder Prest
The breath litrally left my body after I finished this book. I was stunned by the ending. It is not a cliffhanger in anyway. It does create a craving for the continuation of the story.
I felt the prose so lyrical and musical that my imagination rocked like I was aboard the "Phantom" along with Elder and Pimlico. This book in the "Dollars" saga is a tour de force for Pepper Winters. No one does "meaningful" dark erotic romance better. Easy solutions to soothe battered souls, heal damaged psyches and mend broken hearts are not to be found between Elder and Pimlico as they engage each other in a push and pull of want, wishes and sexual desires. Both are damaged. Elder, the the thief, who constantly offers Pimlico choices when he is beginning to realize his choices when it comes to her are ever narrower. Pimlico, a slave brutalized beyond the pale, is healing physically but intense psycho-sexual wounds still haunt her as she tries to deal with her growing attraction to Elder.
Ms. Winters' power of description is so captivating:
"In the Moroccan sunshine, his skin turned a molten honey while his hair carried nightmares itself." - Pimlico
The part of the "Dollars" story that was told in this book is a gloriously satisfying read but there are complexities at work in this story that make it hard, so hard to wait for more. And lest I forget, the story has that wonderful touch of sexual heat. A lot of healing of the damaged characters goes into the blazing hot sexual encounters. I have chills!!! I suggest you get in on this feeling! These writings are truly praise worthy and worth their weight in dollars.
