How long can I leave my Dolphin in the pool?

We recommend taking your Dolphin out of the pool after each use to empty and rinse the filters and to rinse off any excess chemicals. It is ideal to keep your Dolphin out of the pool and stored away when not in use. If your Dolphin has a weekly scheduler, you can keep it in your pool for a week, but you will need to make sure the filter is cleaned.

How to take the robot out of the pool?

Gently pull on the blue floating cable to bring your Dolphin to the edge of the pool. Once your Dolphin is in reach, grasp the handle to pull the robot out of the water. Place the robot on the edge of the pool to let the remaining water drain out. Do not pull the Dolphin out of the water using the cable.

How to use the power supply

Make sure the power supply is placed at least 12 feet from the edge of the pool. Connect the floating cable to the power supply, align the lug on the connector with the notch of the plug on the power supply, then turn clockwise. Press the ON/OFF button on the power supply to begin cleaning. The power supply for your Dolphin is not waterproof- it is water resistant. When in use, make sure it was either stored on the caddy or far away from the pool, so it does not get pulled in. Always use an electrical outlet protected with a Ground Fault Interrupter (GFI) device; this will protect your Dolphin from surges in power. Do not use an extension cord or surge protector to power your Dolphin.

How to store/roll/operate cable

When you Dolphin is in use, only release enough of the cable for your Dolphin to properly cover your pool. Leave the excess cable loosely rolled outside of the pool. When storing your Dolphin on a caddy, carefully wrap the cable so it does not have any kinks and place it around the top of the caddy. Once a week, unplug the cable from the power supply and unwind the tangled portions of the cable, straighten it out and leave in the sun for a few hours. This will help remove any tangling or kinks.

Great Robot for above ground (be prepared to buy the fine filter separately)

I bought this for my 33' round above ground. It works great (with the fine filter - purchased separately).

So much better than the Aquabot I bought(and returned) before buying this. The cord doesn't impede the robot like the Aquabot one did. It just works. I do have to run it more than once for it to touch the whole pool, but that is not a huge issue. It picks up leaves and bits, sand, hair, etc.

Filter removal is easy. BTW (this is to Maytronics) It is a douche move to NOT include the good filter at this price point.

That said, yes, you DO need the separate fine filter.. don't bother if you aren't willing to buy that too.

The handle is great. To those buying their first robot, yes the handle is a big deal, as you cannot lift the robot out by the cord.

I gave 4 stars due to the need to buy the fine filter separately, otherwise, it is a solid investment.

Let me start by saying I read a million product reviews for a million kinds of automatic vacuums and handhelds alike. I noticed Dolphin had better reviews than most. I'm ashamed to admit that I'm using this on a 16' Intex above ground . The pool itself was $200. The after market pump was $250. This vacuum was twice the cost of the pool.

I have a pool beneath a tree and I don't like to cover it. It's a pain in the ass to constantly fiddle with a cover. I have an Intex skimmer and it does an ok job. But I don't like to run pump constantly either. The way I do things requires a decent vacuum.

I tried the Intex automatic vacuum and it was good for a season and failed this year. Same with the Intex vacuum that came with the deluxe maintenance kit. Down two vacuums after just a season, I was done buying cheap solutions.

This vacuum took less than two minutes to get in the water and running. Its a good weight, sturdy, feels well built. It cleaned my pool bottom spotlessly in one cycle. Despite what people say, it did go up some of my pool sides. It does occasionally wheelie around.

Removing it was simple, pull the cord until you can grab the handle. There's a simple push latch for topside filter access. Hosing the filter down is easy and pieces dettach from filter housing for further cleaning access .

The track came off my unit one time. I put it back and haven't had a problem since.

It was expensive compared to many other solutions. However, my pool is now the cleanest it has been and I don't have to fuss with covers, manual vacuums, attachments to pumps or hoses. Just plug it in, drop it in, and walk away.

If you're reluctant, don't be. It's a great unit for an above ground pool. If you can afford it, it's worth the money for the sake of automation and simplicity.

Don’t waste your money

When we bought our new house, the previous owners graciously left their old Dolphin, which worked amazingly. About a week in, our puppy chewed the wiring, so we decided to get a new Dolphin-my husband wanted this one, so despite the negative reviews I agreed. This Dolphin is terrible. It misses all but the largest debris, and even sometimes still misses that. The picture above is a corner of our pool that the Dolphin consistently misses, even after back to back to back to back (yes, literally 4) cleaning cycles! The functionality improved questionably when we replaced the origin filter with the ultra fine filter basket, but not dramatically (I don’t notice a difference at all, my husband insists that there is one).
Additionally, Dolphin (or whoever) didn’t let my first negative review get posted-despite my review meeting all required standards-so who knows how many more negative reviews this product would have. Overall, I’m very frustrated, still have to manually vacuum our pool even while the Dolphin is running, and will be looking to upgrade to a different automatic pool cleaner.

We have a smaller 18' above ground pool and have been using the standard vac that uses suction from the pool pump. Well this winter our new pup decided to try walking on the cover and it broke, dumping him and all the mud he was covered in, as well as all the leaves that were on top of the cover into the pool. Needless to say it was a huge mess, which after it settled left the bottom of the pool covered in a fine layer of mud and a pile about 2 feet wide of leaves and debris. What would have taken us hours to clean by hand with the old vac took 2 cycles with the dolphin! I was skeptical but ended up thoroughly impressed! I will say the basket did get clogged a couple of times from the sheer amount of leaves, but that would not be an issue for routine cleanings. What really impressed me was how well the fine bits of mud and dirt were removed. It did miss a couple of spots that were closer to the edges of the pool, but nothing is perfect and I am sure I have missed spots cleaning manually as well. All in all, great purchase and does the job. I am even more excited for summer now that I can enjoy my pool without having to worry about doing as much maintenance!

Also for those questioning if you need the separately sold fine filter basket, I felt like the standard basket did a great job, at least with the type of dirt and debris we have encountered so far.
