I absolutely love this movie. It is so upbeat and it's based on a true story. It's the story of a female dolphin that was rescued after being tangled up in fishing line and rope from a crab pot left by fishermen. She suffered blood loss to her tail long enough that they had to amputate her tail fin. While she could swim by moving what was left of her side to side, this was not normal and in time would damage her spine and end result would be that she'd die. A young boy named Sawyer who initially cut her loose from some of the gear she was trapped in gets an idea thanks to his older cousin a returning veteran has to go through rehab for his injuries...he enlists the help of a doctor that develops prosthetic devices for amputees. He makes a prosthetic tail for Winter and after a few trials and errors Winter adapts to her new tail and is able to swim normally. Through it all Winter has become inspiration for veterans and others who have suffered the loss of a limb. It's a very moving story, very upbeat, and makes for truly wonderful family entertainment. I highly recommend this movie. I have watched it several times and it spurred me to purchase Dolphin Tale 2 which is a continuation of this wonderful and heart warming true story.

Mark Isham has continued to amaze me throughout the years with his ability to compose music that creates and entire mood for a movie. In the picture score for Dolphin Tale, he succeeds that. This score is probably one of his best if not his best yet. Removed from the actual picture (Movie) and set aside by itself, a score can be musical, magical and thus moving. In this paricular movie score, Isham manages, with all the tracks within, create magical music, that is not just a good accompaniment for the movie Dolpin Tale, but a good back drop for a pure and kind soul search. Each track is an evironment of peace by itself. Impressive.

The music is high quality and very melodic. As the sound track to Dolphin Tale, the movie, it's understandable that it's aquatic and very whimsical in style. It contains 21 different sound tracks and each are different in length and content. I have not watched the movie but this soundtrack is full of melodic surprises. It is comforting to listen. This CD is well done, very enjoyable, and well worth its price. I highly recommend it.

I bought this for my nephew because he LOVES the music in the movie, "Dolphin Tale." Every time the music from the credits plays, he starts dancing. However, this CD has NONE of that music on it! Just the instrumental songs that are throughout the movie. I was really disapointed and so was he!

I was so disappointed with the CD when I bought it and found out it was a score CD
even though the booklet says "Original Movie Soundtrack" I bought the CD in FL where
I actually saw Winter the dolphin. If there going to do 2 CDs 1 should be the movie
soundtrack and a score CD on 2 different discs. Home Alone 2 has a soundtrack & a score CD on 2 different discs.
This is a perfect example of what I am saying. Where The Heart Is CD & The Parent Trap remake CD are the same way.

Family fare is another tricky area for composers. My rule is that no matter what the subject matter is that composers should treat it as real as they can. Even if it comes to heartwarming family tales such as this. The moment the composer decides they are going to make a "children's score" then the score will turn out awful, guaranteed. Luckily Mark Isham is an an extremely talented veteran composer and that's not the case here.

Dolphin Tale is a film that is full of scripted Hollywood goodness. It's a feel-good movie and that's what it sets out to be. The score reflects that and Isham approaches it in a very a inviting fashion. The music just eases you into this calm state of mind. The strings with a trickling piano instantly let you mind wander to warm and happy times. As the score progresses Isham makes sure that it never goes overboard with the saccharine qualities. He does a great job of telling the story and placing the listener within the situations with the characters. There is lots of human heart behind the music and it rarely feels stale. Towards the end of the album the music sort of loses its footing and starts to float too high. You almost want to pull it back down and say "calm down, let's not get too cheesy here", but alas it does.

This is a harmless score with tons of heartwarming tracks that would put a smile on the hardest brutes out there. The score starts off fantastic and nothing gets overdone till the very end. While the ending may be overwritten a tad it's not enough to say that this is a bad family score. Isham delivers the goods where goods are needed and that's all there is to it.

I absolutely love movie scores (the instrumental music). I liked Mark Isham's work with the "Once Upon a Time" score and thought this one rated up with that score. Great mix of instruments and melodies. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Score

This is a brilliant score. One of Mark Isham's best. It's uplifting, moving and, at times, exciting. If you love film scores (not those stupid soundtracks that are just full of songs, which mean nothing five minutes later), then this is well worth adding to your collection.

The CD runs for approx 52 minutes.

This soundtrack only contains the instrumental tracks and not the songs which I assume most would want...as I did! Very disappointing and sent it back
