Here is a brief synopsis:
a. CFX95DZW purchased on Amazon on 7Mar18
b. CFX95DZW delivered on 13Mar18. Box was put into service that day.
c. CFX95DZW failed on 14May18. Dometic was contacted at 1-800-544-4881 that morning. I was given a list of repair centers.
d. CFX95DZW was taken to an authorized repair center on 14May18 per Dometic instruction.
e. 17May18 I received a call back from the repair center telling me that although they were an "authorized repair center" they had been instructed to have me call 804-746-1313 (Dometic US on the East Coast).
f. I called the above number and was told to email them a photo of the serial number (from the bottom of the CFX95DZW and a copy of the Amazon invoice. The representative indicated that once they were in receipt of this information they would "normally" send me a replacement and I would send the defective unit back to them in the shipping box.
1. I inquired if this unit had a "history" of failures of this nature and was informed that this was not common and that they stood behind their products. The representative made the point that they sell "thousands" of these units and a few are bound to have issues...at this point the jury is out and I'm waiting to be informed of the Corporate decision....updates to follow.
g. An RGA (Return Goods Authorization) was issued the day I called the 804-746-1313 number (17May18).
1. The replacement CFX95DZW arrived on 21May18, and is working flawlessly so far (two hours as of this writing)
2. There were no shipping instructions or shipping labels for the return of the old unit so I called 804-746-1313 once again. I was told the unit was "trash" and to dispose of it.
3. I emailed Dometic for confirmation and left the old unit in the Dumpster in the yacht club.
--When this CFX95DZW is working, it's very good...as one would expect for something that cost close to $1,100.
--Based on the reviews it seems apparent that production quality control is not consistent...issues range from complete failures to USB issues.
--Those that purchased a "good unit" have had no issues, and those who got a poor unit had a wide range of problems.
--Customer service was excellent once in communication with the right part of Dometic (The correct number is NOT in the manual).
--If you're planning on being offshore and needing to rely on this unit, I would suggest getting it early and running it for several months prior to trusting it's reliability. When you're in the middle of the ocean or in a foreign country, it's a bit late for customer service. My experience is that meantime failures for refrigeration/electronics tend to be in the early life of the units.
--Due to the EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE alone, I'll update again and increase the rating if the unit functions as it should for more than a couple of months.
The unit shipped to me by Dometic in May 2018 has worked flawlessly for eight months of continuous use. It has run on either DC (when underway) or AC (when we have shore power. It keeps ice cream rock hard and refrigerated items at a constant 34-36 degrees F. The issue now is the longevity of the unit. We're hopeful that a unit costing $1,100 has a reasonably long operating life. We keep it insulated in a Dometic flexible case and insure that the compressor is clean.
For a product that is over $1000, let alone $50, this is absolutely unacceptable and I would advise looking elsewhere. I looked up the Dometic company and found out they changed their logo and company name not long ago. There are claims by other customers that they source components now from China. This is indicative of a greedy company cutting corners at the expense of trusting, good paying customers. Let my loss and experience set the record straight for prospective customers.
Best wishes for your future outdoor adventures.
I opted for the cover that keeps it more insulated and that was a good investment though probably not necessary.
This is my second Dometic cooler – I had the previous model and this is a big improvement in design: bigger, sturdier, nice handles, lots of thought-out details, and now a drain plug!
You can also plug it into AC home power – I have it in my kitchen right now, keeping stuff cool quietly, ready for the next expedition! No I'm not a paid reviewer, I just love tools that allow one to live off the grid and run quietly and efficiently. And keep beer and food cold. :)
Make sure you understand the "Lo Med High" setting with regard to when it automatically switches off depending on the voltage level. This is important when you're running it off a battery, because it will switch itself off if it goes below the pre-set level (it's covered in the manual). I set it to "Lo" when on the solar battery so that it stays on even when the battery goes below 12.3V or whatever the trigger is.

Checked the inside temperatures with a thermometer and yes they were spot on to the settings
Nice and quiet
Look forward to traveling with this as the motel fridges don’t work well
Update: been running 2 weeks now and going strong
Je recommande ce produit malgré le prix onéreux.
Things can always be improved, and it would be nice to be able to customize the organization aspect of it, for future generations of this fridge. IE: being able to move dividers around or having removable baskets.
Still deserves a 5 star rating though, so happy with it.
It does make some noise, as it has a compressor, but I can still sleep almost right beside it. I am very happy that I purchased it.
