Personally I liked the story and the twists. Game elements are simple, with most choices having been made by others. I like the mystery, and the twists at the end which make it much of a SF game as most litRPGs. What is going on outside of the game, even if the current story takes place inside, has a big role. I am really curious what is going on and what direction the story is going to take. Looking forward to part 2.
Cons: Unrealistic game mechanics, levels and stats does not really play a role in any given situation. MC seems to bumble into and out of precarious situation and luck is the main driving force of getting out of said situation. Come on! 2 years for a curse and torment that lasts for an hour equated to what level you are. These elements seem forced to make the story work. 14,000 years and fishing is still not mastered. Oh, random gained of spells and abilities. Story does not go into any detail of where the character places their stats and talent tokens. Why bother bringing it up if it does not play a role.
I am okay with the whole transgendered, lesbian and a 43 year-old male being stuck into a little girl's body. But, all of those elements into the same party of three seems way too unlikely.
This what really bothers me about the story, everything is way too unlikely.
If you want a character driven narrative and do not care if the litrpg elements do not seem to play a role, you would like this book. As I was hoping those things did play a role, it leaves me disappointed and how the author makes everything unlikely to ever be finished. Way too broken world and how each situation is solved leaves me disengaged.Broken and lacks litrpg elements
So our main characters work their way across the globe, encountering all sorts of problems, and coming through with ingenious plans. I have to say that whilst I liked the main character. I really enjoyed Popper and Alice.
Looking forward to seeing the next book in the series.
