Customers appreciate the bag's size. They find it big enough for their 1DS and 70-200 2.4 lens, as well as a laptop. The front pocket fits a 13" laptop, but not a 15". It's not too big for everyday use and has plenty of room up top for another small prime like a 50mm f/1.4 or a notepad. There's also plenty of space in the pouch for a notepad or other folder.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 24, 2011Color: BrownVerified PurchaseI'm always torn between carrying a big heavy bag for of equipment and a small one with just a body with one lens attached and one extra lens, and I'm also always torn between carrying a ratty bag that doesn't cry out "expensive camera inside" and one that looks halfway presentable. This bag is a comfortable compromise on both counts.
First of all, the dimensions. When I first took it out of the package I was slightly disappointed at how small it looked after reading all of the reviews about how ginormous it is. It is not "too big" for everyday use, at least for me. I have a Nikon D700 that I usually keep the battery grip attached to, and it is a bit snug with the lens pointed down. I've come to take out the included camera divider, and between that and the fact that the flap secures with velcro allowing for easy positioning, the camera fits fine. An extra inch would be better. As far as depth, a 24-70 f/2.8 lens on the camera with the lens hood on fits perfectly, and a 70-200 f/2.8 with the hood reversed also fits. A second lens fits into the second compartment just fine, even the big Nikkor 14-24 f/2.8. By taking out both dividers, I fit the body sideways with a Sigma 150-500 attached and still had room to carry a Sigma 28-300 and a Sigma 1.4 TC alongside the lens. The front pouch fits a 10" netbook comfortably, but instead I opt to carry an incredible collection of accessories and personal items in there. The overall thing to remember is that this bag is not rigid except for the bottom and will conform easily to a lot of different equipment inside. For the one time I ran out of room I attached an accessory pouch from my other Domke bag to the strap.
It looks great without being too flashy. I'm on the subway a lot so I've been using an Army camouflage messenger bag, but recently I noticed I was getting some strange looks when entering museums and other public places, like they were ready to search inside for a terrorist bomb or something. On the other hand I have some nice bags I just won't take with me everyday on the bus or train as they may not scream camera bag, but they do scream that 'something' nice and expensive is inside. This bag looks nice without looking expensive. The only fault I have to correct somehow is the big bright 'Domke' logo sewn onto the flap, I'm thing an Xacto knife to the stitching holding it on.
It is made incredibly well of heavy duty canvas with flawless stitching. I have no doubt it will outlive me. The thing I really noticed when I started using it is how everything just seems to work well for the way I operate, it really shows that this was made by a camera bag maker and not a laptop bag maker or a backpack maker with a few dividers thrown in to call it a camera bag. Somehow it seems that my equipment weighs less when using this bag or my other Domke bag, an F-7 that Is for when I need to carry a lot more, I don't know if it is the sturdiness or the balance or what but I really don't mind carrying around a lot of equipment in either of these bags. However, I really recommend the Post Office Shoulder Pad if you're going to be carrying around 15-20 pounds on your shoulder all day.
This is definitely a best buy, and even though relatively expensive, it's cheaper than buying yet another camera bag to add to the collection in my closet, this one I'll use every day.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 16, 2013Color: BrownVerified PurchaseDespite this being called a medium it is really large and can hold a lot of gear. I shoot mirrorless and I can put my camera 4 extra lenses a flash a flash bender a small notebook 2 reflectors a monopod and still have room for more...The padding is very nice and firm providing good protection. You could put a full sized DSLR in here with a 55-200 attached in here and a couple lenses a flash a light modifier and still have room...I do really like this bag but there are a couple things I do not like....This style of bag is supposed to be more discreet from my understanding but the tag with the Domke logo is just screaming for attention...so I was able to remove some of the stitching and remove the tag...also without any gear in the bag I found the bag to have considerable weight...so I wish it was a bit lighter...but for that price I am getting excellent protection...I also really like the material used on this bag...I am a big fan of the waxed material...it will just look better as it ages...plus Domke includes a can of wax to restore the finish...a good investment
- Reviewed in the United States on July 21, 2021Color: BrownDomke f832 Suppose be good quality useful product , not my style not modern type of photo carrier bag after camera and lens Put inside bag. become heavy and uncomfortable , too big to carry city and busy street no pockets outside of bag or non of zipper pocket ,no water pouch .nothing outside of bag I installed hand carry handle , but lot of things missing only 12 inch tablet to fit inside , Domke f803 are much easier to carry lighter feels better on my shoulder , more pocket. - Reviewed in the United States on January 14, 2015Color: BrownVerified PurchaseI really really really want to love this bag. I do still have it and use it, but with one consideration. The front pocket is JUST too small to fit a 15" mac book pro. I mean, it ALMOST fits, to the point where it could be a flaw in the sample that I have. I use a neoprene sleeve in the main pocket to work around this and put my wacom tablet in the front laptop pocket.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 31, 2014Color: BrownVerified PurchaseI bought this bag having already owned a Crumpler 5MDH and an older Lowepro 200AW for the purpose of carrying an inconspicuous, flexible daily bag. In comparison to the other two, it has less padding without the inserts, but equally protective when the inserts are...well, inserted. I like the option of removable inserts as I sometimes don't need them when I am packing light.
The F-832 is a sexy bag. Rugged exterior and equally schnazzy insides. Comes with a very thick removable baseplate (almost 1" of padding below) and foam lined inserts. I found myself rolling the inserts over themselves, so that they are half height and double padded, so that I can quickly grab my camera out of the bottom of the rather deep insert (could fit a 70-200mm).
I also ordered the F-831 for comparison and ended up keeping the larger of the two. I felt that the 831 was reasonably sized, but I expect to pack random things in my street photo adventure moments. The larger size could easily fit my water bottle, a rain/wind breaker, hat, maybe some flowers if I'm going to surprise the lady.
I only have two gripes with this bag (and they were negligible enough to not remove any stars) which are that (A) Domke has installed the "hook" side of the velcro inside the bag causing me to scratch myself sometimes when reaching in fast without inserts installed and (B) the exterior laptop sleeve is only padded on the front surface. I can hear my laptop land firmly on whatever surface I set the bag down onto. I remedied this by cutting a small strip of 1/4" foam sheet that I had laying around and stuffing it in the bottom of the laptop sleeve. It stays in place and protects the bottom of my laptop from any damage. I dont expect to carry my laptop on most of my trips.
If you want a durable, casual bag to sometimes carry your camera gear and sometimes not, this is your winner. Its quite attractive and feels like its built to outlive myself. I would highly recommend this bag to anybody in a similar predicament as myself.
