Speaking of the beginning of the book, it took a bit of getting past for me, in terms of requiring more suspension of disbelief than I’m generally willing to give erotica; in this case, that Kelly discovers her father has been having an affair, so decides that this needs to be corrected with a spanking, administered by her. And it’s not only her father who needs spanking by her, but also her mother for letting it happen, the other woman for leading her father into temptation, and her boyfriend for being in the general vicinity. They all agree to this without hesitation, although nobody enjoys anything.
Most of the story revolves around Kelly’s growth in terms of getting things she wants, with sidelines of Sam, her boyfriend, loving her and at the same time resenting alternately his inclusion in things and his exclusion from things. While polyamorous, their relationship is central, though, and remains strong.
Kelly’s attendance of a BDSM course gives a lot of education, albeit not enough to stop her from talking about her billionaire client, with details, to friends after the fact; given the overall theme of “scene” education that the book has, I was surprised that this breach of confidentiality was — ironically — never punished. Again, for those who are content with a more “fantasy” aspect divorced from reality, this sort of thing will be just fine, of course.
There were a good number of things in the book that made it not for me personally despite my enjoyment of BDSM; the focus on specific kinks that I do not have and are turn-offs for me, such as the relationship Kelly has with her [later we learn, adoptive] father, or medical play in general, which snaps me into an unsexy clinical frame of mind. But then, the book’s stated main purpose is to challenge readers to think about such topics and open eyes to experiences they otherwise might not. It accomplishes that goal.
BDSM is a broad palette, and Freier paints with a lot of it here.
First and most important, before you even consider reading this, beware, you
need to have a very open mind to submerge in this story, this is not any fan-
fiction fantasy about any crush some needy girl or nerdy guy has, fantasies and
desires are incredible deep and this is the perfect demonstration of that.
A couple’s sex life can always improve, just need to think of a way to innovate
‘outside the box [bed]’ this story is awesome, I like the development of the
characters, especially their honesty about what they really want, people tend to
look at sex as some taboo topic, even nowadays, there is so difficulty trying to
balance what should really be allowed to expose and what not, but I like this
book breaks those boundaries about sex, after it just something we should all
enjoy. Oh and by the way, I love that pun at the description, this is definitely
something beyond 50 Shades!
