A NATIONAL BESTSELLER

In perilous times, facts, expertise, and truth are indispensable. President Trump’s flagrant disregard for the truth and his self-aggrandizing exaggerations, specious misstatements, and bald-faced lies have been rigorously documented and debunked since the first day of his presidency by The Washington Post’s Fact Checker staff.

Donald Trump and His Assault on Truth is based on the only comprehensive compilation and analysis of the more than 16,000 fallacious statements that Trump has uttered since the day of his inauguration. He has repeated many of his most outrageous claims dozens or even hundreds of times as he has sought to bend reality to his political fantasy and personal whim.

Drawing on Trump’s tweets, press conferences, political rallies, and TV appearances,
The Washington Post identifies his most frequently used misstatements, biggest whoppers, and most dangerous deceptions. This book unpacks his errant statements about the economy, immigration, the impeachment hearings, foreign policy, and, of critical concern now, the coronavirus crisis as it unfolded.

Fascinating, startling, and even grimly funny,
Donald Trump and His Assault on Truth by The Washington Post is the essential, authoritative record of Trump’s shocking disregard for facts.

In college, my liberal arts college required everyone (even us chem majors) to take two history courses. One of my courses, "Early Modern Europe II", used a text book that was made up of contemporary newspaper articles about the the events of the day. I loved the course (great professor too) and learned the phrase, "newspapers are the first draft of history".

This book is an example of what students 50 years in the future will read to learn what the politics of 2015-20 was all about. The documented lies and deliberate misdirections of the president will inform and, probably, amaze, even casual readers of history. Yes, historians will probably treat this president harshly but having this first draft of history at hand should help the objective reader make up his or her own mind about how we got where we are today.

Red state readers will poo poo this book and blue state readers will probably fume with anger. Objective readers will be saddened so I guess you can't ask much more from a book than that.

I am actually surprised at how many things trump has said are actually true. This book provides an unbiased look with documentation of trump's statements.

I rushed to buy a book published by this author's publisher as soon as I learned the stand Simon & Schuster took in regards to the insurrection leading actions and role played by Josh Hawley. The publisher withdrew there support of his upcoming book they were to publish, but could not "support Senator Hawley after his role in what became a dangerous threat to our democracy and freedom." I am looking forward to the content of this book and know I will enjoy it as we put an end to the many things we could call the 45th [can not add the office title here, as it seems wrong to ever call him by that title]... January 20th will bring dignity back to the office and the Assault on Truth will be replaced with a better brand of leadership.

In this volume, the Washington Post's fact checker staff reports on Trump's most noted and most egregious lies. Many of the falsehoods involve events that never happened or events that Trump concocted himself but attributed to Democrats or other entities. Many of Trump's lies were and are issued by his endless tweets. None of them have any grounding in fact, just Trump's dishonesty, fervid fears, and self-projections. Readers are shown that Trump never hesitates to lie regardless of the circumstances or even the long-term repercussions to himself. Lying and corruption are the hallmarks of Trump's administration. You get the sense that as comprehensive as the Washington Post is in the book, there could easily be at least another volume or two.

Like many big-business people, Trump speaks by stream of consciousness and cares more about your loyalty to him than your acceptance of reality. The Washington Post did a great job of assembling and fact-checking Trump's many claims and assertions. Admittedly, all politicians lie. But many of us are smart enough to catch them. But Trump launches what amounts to a denial-of-service attack on the public's collective mind, completely overwhelming us. Here is a reliable way to avoid being overwhelmed.

The other "Trump Books" I've read all told a coherent story. This is more of an itemization and explication of Trump's exaggerations, wrong info, and bald-faced lies.

A detailed look at the many outlandish lies and falsehood spread by Donald Trump while in office. Quite incredible that so many Americans think that he is the best choice as a GOP candidate and that he should be reelected as President again in 2024.

How do you know Trump is lying - his lips are moving. Most people with more than two brain cells to rub together know that Trump lies, exaggerates and gaslights. The astounding thing is the extent of it, to see it all laid out in a book is just mind boggling. How on earth does he get away with it ??
This book is a must read, well written and meticulously fact checked. Trumps never ending assault on the truth and facts is just outrageous. He lies so much and so often that he has normalised it for his fan base. They don't want facts, Trump is their truth and they are willing victims of his gaslighting. Let's hope for the sake of humanity the USA can topple King Donald from his throne of lies.

5.0 out of 5 stars A well researched and explained exposé.

Complied over the duration of the Trump presidency, and very well researched, accurate and succinct, the book examines the vast array of Trump's statements one by one, beginning with an overarching chapter entitled '16,000 lies'. This book provides an excellent breakdown of each of Trump's claims and contrasts them with the truth. The Pinocchio ratings are particularly apt.
