Janis Flores was born in Montana, and raised in Colorado and California. After graduating from college, she received her license in Medical Technology. She married Ray Flores, and they moved to northern California--she to supervise a laboratory, he to establish his horseshoeing business. When she began complaining that she'd never had time to take a writing class, Ray told her to quit whining and sign up for one at the J.C.

The class was on the short story, but Jan always has a lot to say, so she wrote a Gothic suspense novel called HAWKSHEAD, which was subsequently published in hardcover by (then) Doubleday and company. Thirty-four more novels--from historicals to contemporary mainstream--followed.

Done Driftin' was an excellent story, and will appeal to romance fans and horse lovers alike. I particularly enjoyed the emphasis on many relationships, not just the love relationship between Carla and Wade. The layers of love and respect between Carla and her grandmother Octavia, and the layers of love and dissonance between Carla and her mother Meredith, elevate this story beyond normal romance boundaries. Also, the author's love for animals, and especially for horses, rings true and solid. From Octavia's affection for her Triple Crown winner Done Roamin', to Carla's delight in her stallion Done Driftin', the thrill of the racetrack and the beauty of race horses doing what they love best adds an additional element of excitement and beauty. Can't wait for the next one - Done Cryin'!
