I've finally used this pedal live and wanted to leave a review because it worked perfectly. Overall the pedal feels fairly sturdy. I'm mainly using this as a volume pedal in my live rig but I love having the wah on the board for at-home use. It really is a great size. The pedal resistance is a bit light but in a live setting, you really just adapt to it and it's not even noticeable.
I will say that if you want a pedal with an even sweep (such as a VP Jr.) than this may not be the pedal for you. Don't get me wrong, you can dial in all volume levels that you'd need, it's just very touch sensitive in the lower part of the volume range. This was a non-issue for me because I typically use the volume to pull back just a little bit, or boost just a little bit depending on where I'm sitting in the mix. It was perfect for that! Most of the sweep is from about 60% to 100% volume (in my estimation) and in a live situation, it was phenomenal.
Also, the wah sounds great - typical wah sound...one minor issue I had during practice is that I accidentally kicked it into wah during practice; it wasn't a huge issue but I am going to make something that will keep this from happening (something I can remove).
I highly recommend this for people looking for board space and those who are on a budget. I actually chose this pedal over a mini Dunlop and I have no regrets.
I really like how the pedal switches from Wah to Volume. I was expecting a button to press on the side, which I think is a pain. My Dunlop wah has a button on the side to switch from clean to distortion, but I never use it since its hard to get to when playing live. But for this, you simply press on the pedal with your foot when its in the down position, and it switches back and forth easily. You have to push firm which is great so you don't switch from wah to volume accidently. The lights are also very helpful to see where you left off at. When you're using the Wah feature, the lights will be red, then green for the volume feature.
If you're looking for an inexpensive space saver on your board or a great alternative to a more expensive pedal, I highly highly recommend this pedal.
Also, I mounted it to homemade pedal board. The bottom of the pedal isn't really conducive to easy attachment (see pic). Above the sticker tag there's a protrusion that won't allow the pedal to lay flat. Not a deal breaker but it may need a little extra effort when mounting to pedal board
Update: Not defective! But...the volume control aspect of the pedal is very shallow, meaning it goes from 0 to 100% quite quickly when pressing forward on the pedal. It takes a little a little extra foot expertise. Added star to acknowledge that it really does work as it should, but it could work better.
Top international reviews
In Wah mode, I was very impressed with the tone! Classic Wah tones all the way and through the entire sweeping motion. There's a tiny volume jump but it's not really an issue. Volume mode is easily engaged by toe-clicking the pedal and the pedal behaves just like a volume knob. On or off, there is no discernible coloration in tone and that's a must for a pedal to make it onto my board.
A really decent Wah/Volume Pedal for the money!
First impression, I love the colour and styling. The case is lightweight and made of plastic. However the plastic seems durable. I feel like I could hit it with a hammer and it would be find, I'm not going to test that theory though. The base is metal with stick on rubber feet. If you want to use velcro to mount this to a board you will want to take note of the small bump on the bottom of the plate to allow space for the control arm be pressed fully downward.
I have the previously released "Wah Cry" made by Donner, my issue with that pedal was that there was a manual switch to change the function and the stomp switch toggles on/off. With this pedal the toggle changes the function.
The volume function has good range and a nice sweep for volume swells. It is silent when all the way up without any noticable hiss or hum.
The switch switches easily but not so soft that you would accidently switch functions. There is led lights that change according to function. These are hard to see while practicing due to their placement under the treadle. The glow from LEDs is much easier to see in a darker room which is ideal for gigging.
The Wah is a classic sounding Wah sound and definitely functional for my needs and wahbilities.
Overall this is a durable and very lightweight pedal with seamless dual functionality. It is a fantastic option for any pedal board but especially for a user with limited space
Now the pedal:
I also have a Dunlop CBM95 Crybaby Mini Wah Pedal which is awesome. I want a small volume pedal as well so after reading all the great reviews I thought it would be cool to have a combo wah/volume on my board that could switch immediately from wah to volume.
I plugged it in connected it to my 20 watt peavey mini classic tube head and egnater 1x12 cabinet, (i really love these mini versions of great products) and fired up my awesome cherry gibson sg standard (full size of course!) and Voila!! The wah sounded great! I switched to the volume and it was a nice smooth sweep with no tone suck that I could tell.
All good so far.
Let's switch back to the wah. I push down on the pedal and CRACK! What happened? I gently unplug and pick up the pedal and check the switch. It won't switch and there is something rattling inside. I plug it back in and nothing! It won't switch or power up!
I guess you could say that I don't have much confidence in the the quality or durability of this product.
I'm currently taping the return label to the package and off to the post office.
ONE OF THE BEST PURCHASES I'VE MADE!
I have has this for three days and I can't stop playing it! It is so much fun! It sounds great and it plays well. I used to have the Dunlop Hendrix pedal. This sounds as good and is easier to play due to it's size (for me, at least).
It seems pretty durable but I've only had it for a few days so I can't say for sure.
I got this with the Donner tuner, which is okay for the price, but this wah/volume pedal is an amazing deal!!!
The pedal foot print is excellent.
