There is the usual, very predictable plot; a little preaching and psychobabble; the lack of communication and plethora of assumptions; and pie in the sky, over the top, happy ever after, that is so prevalent in Laurie's writing. Her preoccupation with sex in every story is tedious, and her sex scenes are clunky and uncomfortable. I was hoping her writing would mature, but it has not.
There are lots of mistakes in these books, which I find disconcerting, since Laurie thanks editors and beta readers in every book. I hope she isn't paying them much.
If you've read Laurie's other books, and liked them, you will enjoy this one. It's nice to see Haley get a family after losing her parents. But if you haven't read a Laurie Kellogg book, it's best not to start here.
This the first book I've read by this author and it won't be the last. If you like romance with a little sec thrown in, as well as some laughs, I recommend you pick up Ms Kellogg's "Don't Break My Heart: Book 6".
Dang I've got to get 1 through 5!
Justin Rivera is raising Haley, his fifteen year old god daughter after the tragix death of her mother when she was thirteen and her father just recently from cancer. He knows he is just feeling his way through the trials of raising a daughter but he loves Haley and intends to do a good job. He knows Christmas will be hard on her this year so when his brother Nick insists he join them in celebrating Luke and Sabrina’s wedding, he agrees to go. It helps that most of the town is going and all expenses are paid for by Luke and Sabrina’s friend Ben. Haley is all right with going as she gets to ski and party with her best friend, Dani, Nick’s daughter.
The three day extravaganza is made all the more interesting as Justin’s old girlfriend, Trish is also there as a guest. Her friend Frankie and her husband had broken up and Frankie needed someone to go with her. Ben ask Trisha to spend the night in his room so Luke and Sabrina will think they have something going and won’t be sad for Ben. He plans to sleep somewhere else. He trades places with Justin after seeing the sparks fly between Trisha and Justin giving them a chance to be together again.
Will Trisha and Justin end up together? Will Ben be happy?
This is a great series and I can hardly wait for the next book.
Love, laughter, tears and bonding.
Grab a cup of tea or glass of cold tea and put your feet up and sink into a great novel.
