—Laura Vanderkam, author of The New Corner Office and 168 Hours

"One of my favorite business books of the year: a brilliant guide to upgrading our careers without even changing jobs!"
—Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic, psychology professor at Columbia University and author of Why Do So Many Incompetent Men Become Leaders

"If you want to reinvent your career, you don't have to leave your job. In this pragmatic and essential new book, Shana Gaynor shows you how to empower yourself professionally and craft the job and career you want."
—Dorie Clark, Wall Street Journal bestselling author of The Long Game and Reinventing You, and executive education faculty, Duke University Fuqua School of Business

"This is a highly actionable book, full of great stories about people just like you, people who figure out that they are more than just their job. People who demand meaning and purpose in the work they do, and use happiness and engagement as their North Star for good work. Read this book, change your mind, and design the job you love."
—Bill Burnett, coauthor of Designing Your Life and Designing Your New Work Life and Executive Director of the Life Design Lab at Stanford

Whether you’re thinking of leaving your job or facing a crossroads in your career, this book will help.
—Morra Aarons-Mele, author of Hiding in the Bathroom and host of the Anxious Achiever podcast

If you find yourself in a career rut,
Don’t Call it Quits can give you the insights, perspective, and sage advice not only to get you out of it, but also to take your career to new heights.
Dane Holmes, CEO and cofounder of Eskalera and former global head of human capital management at Goldman Sachs

We’re entering a new era where employees have much more agency about how, where, and when they work. This coincides with workers around the world thinking more about their why than ever before as the tumult of the world around is changing everything. What a perfect time for this book. Shana masterfully illustrates how employees can wield this power and take charge of their careers. It’s never been more important for employees to take ownership of their careers. This book is an indispensable guide in showing you how to do just that.
Lars Schmidt, author of Redefining HR and founder of Amplify

“Shana has written a must-read! She offers clear, easy-to-follow advice; relatable stories; and just the right amount of 'kick in the pants' to get you moving! What's more, she upends traditional wisdom that the only way to build a career you want is to leave, and instead takes the reader on a journey to illuminate their needs, values, and priorities—and then put that knowledge into action. Strongly recommend!"
—Kathryn Minshew, founder and CEO of The Muse and author of The New Rules of Work

Hi, I'm Shana Lebowitz Gaynor. I'm the author of "Don't Call It Quits" and a correspondent at Insider covering careers, leadership, and the future of work.

My goal is to help people find the simplest and most practical paths to happiness and fulfillment at work. Some of my favorite Insider projects to date are an exploration of gender and racial dynamics within the human resources industry, an analysis of burnout among US workers, and a guide to getting hired at Goldman Sachs.

Before starting my career, I graduated from Brandeis University with a bachelor's degree in English and psychology and received a master's degree in English and comparative literature from Columbia University. Today I live in Queens, New York, with my husband and son.
