Editorial Reviews

Review

"Michelle Kennedy adds a refreshing voice to the memoir genre, and her highly entertaining story is one that will stay with me. Kennedy's accessible voice is one that draws the reader compulsively along an unforgettable eleven-country journey, reminding us that sometimes getting lost is the best way to find ourselves again."  --Claire Bidwell Smith, author of The Rules of Inheritance

"Michelle Kennedy has been a long-time contributor to MariaShriver.com and I've always been a fan of her inspirational and uplifting writing."
-- Maria Shriver --This text refers to the paperback edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars An exhilarating adventure story that you can't put down
By tiggersis on September 12, 2016
I was in trouble the minute I picked up this book because I couldn't put it down. 24-hours later, I had already devoured over half the book and had to put myself on a strict daily reading limit to slow down.

The author's prose flows easily back and forth from the present and the past and you're transported along for a ride around the world- and into her heart. From the jungles of Costa Rica to the pubs of Ireland, you can see/smell/hear the details of each destination. You can also feel trepidation and then the final thrill when she jumps off a precarious ledge. Or intense white-knuckle fear when she has a ghostly encounter that keeps her awake at night. There's also the connection with fleeting lovers that brings about feelings and memories of adventure and not living life (dare I say it?) by the book.

The author is like every woman with the same relatable issues- yo-yo weight gains (from too much pizza), stormy relationships, biological clocks, and unresolved parental angst. Am I right ladies? But insecurities be damned, finding one's own truth is the ultimate nirvana and this book captures just that. Well done.

5.0 out of 5 stars You'll cry, laugh and you'll travel all over the world ...
By Kristi on October 14, 2016
I bought this book because Michelle has been my Multimedia Communications Professor at a San Francisco University for two different classes, over two years, and I have always admired her.

This book is full of well crafted stories, interesting characters and adventure. Her stories take place all over the world and you'll be sure to cry and laugh all the way thorough. Without giving it all away, I had to put the book down for a couple of days after reading the second chapter because I just couldn't get too sad all at once - I needed to breath. I went back to the book and made my way through the rest of it feeling like we both came through it together.

When I go to the end of the book I felt like it was actually Michelle's beginning. I also loved that she included a link to pictures and videos of the stories she wrote about in the book to bring the reader even closer to her world.

I highly recommend this book! (And I highly recommend Michelle too ;-)
