KATIE SCHUMACHER has used her years as a teacher, her mindfulness training, and her on the job experience as the mother of three teens to develop the Don’t Press Send Campaign, and the popular app by the same name. As a frequent lecturer, she has been able to spread the message of kind and careful communication to thousands of students, parents, and educators, inspiring them to incorporate a mindful approach to social media.
Mrs. Schumacher was my second grade teacher almost twenty years ago, and she continues to teach me important lessons as an adult! This book was filled with thoughtful tips and suggestions to help parents and educators guide young adults through the scary world of social media. I will definitely be incorporating these practices into my daily life and in my classroom. A must read for anyone thinking Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat are becoming an overwhelming presence in the life of your children, students, or yourself. An excellent resource for parents and teachers!
Get this book if your want ideas on how to integrate a thoughtful approach to technology. The content is applicable to children and adults. My 14 year old read the first few chapters and thought the ideas were relevant and applicable. My main takeaway: parents who discuss a mindful approach to tech with their kids...the kids will be less compulsive about the phone resulting in better relationships with human beings!!
Great guide to being mindful and using technology with care and consideration for its overwhelming ability to both help and hurt. Katie is at the forefront on this conversation and her guidance will get so many!
The Nativty looks wonderful on our lawn. What a witness as we look forward to the birth of Jesus and celebrate Christmas. Scrabble has not been opened yet, but I am sure our grandchildren will love it. We are all avid players. Dont' Press Send is a must for every family whose children access the computer 24/7. Let them think about it before sending!! thank you
I first heard Katie Schumacher speak when I attended a parent talk hosted by our home school district. As a parent and educator, I was very interested in what I could learn about helping my children navigate the "Wild West" of social media. What I especially liked is that Katie is never preaching. She showed data and shared stats and stories that profoundly affected the way I will move through helping my own kids. Her lecture and book are nothing short of eye opening. I wish every school and every parent could hear her speak or read her book. We need this now more than ever. We need to help our kids, teach our kids how to responsibly and safely use their devices. The book offers specific, practical, and effective guidance for helping us humans reclaim our humanity in this brave new world of technology. Mindfulness at its best.
Truly an amazing tool for both Parents and educators. A thoughtful and well crafted approach to a child's cyber world. A must read for anyone that interacts with children that have access to technology. Finally someone has addressed this issue in a constructive tone. Enjoy the read!!
