As a professional zoo animal trainer, I have given and recommended this book to dozens of people. In the zoo community we train animals with this method of operant conditioning, which is more ethical and effective than the traditional training that the vast majority of dog and horse trainers use. This book is one of the gold standards. It is very easy to read and understand, and covers a lot of ground. It does delve into some of the quirks and harder parts of animal training, but in an accessible way. It also provides examples of training a behavior using different methods. For anyone wanting to train their pets, or understand a positive reinforcement system of training for animals or even humans, this is a must-read.

I had to read this for a veterinary science class as we were learning to clicker train. It was definitely helpful but I feel like some of the things were a little outdated. If you really want to learn to clicker train I would recommend this book but I didn't find clicker training to be much better than regular positive reinforcement training.

Easy to understand then author losses it and writes like a scientist & not easy to read latter on as if she was discussing with colleagues not readers at home.
Otherwise great book.
Pet Peave: it’s slightly feministic as in showing many examples how to train your husband but not showing how to train your wife. The info is helpful to all families so femalecentricness is not balanced.
I think author should re-rewrite and sell more copies with updated version.
One of my female customers recommended me this book when I was speaking how to train myself better for normal life tasks and she told me her husband bought it, put it under his wing and then tripled there families income while becoming littetaky nicer to everyone around him and she loves him even more now... I was like “LETS DO IT”... bought book ASAP and can see the value!

It arrived quickly, but was the 1999 version reprinted in 2017. I am happy with the book, just a little disappointed that it wasn't the advertised 2006 version.

This book gives a lot of insight into training and how she delivers the info is incredibly entertaining. When I was told to read this book I was expecting a slow read, like back in school reading a text book. Not at all in this case, I was laughing the whole time and came out at the end with a lot of knowledge.
