No color, character dev or storytelling dimension
February 25, 2017
I agree with another reviewer that mentioned all of the repetition throughout with very little variety. All of the "journal entries" are basically the same. No character development, no real inspiration or background on anyone. This whole book could be just a few pages long and have the same impact. I gave up halfway through when his "outside" band played at the prison. So disappointed there was such little detail given about the performance, prisoners who connected, reaction from the officers, gear used, heck, the weather that day would've been more interesting. Especially after such a build up. To summarize, this story could've really used a proper editor to add more color, realism, dimension and human connection. While I respect the author's efforts and don't doubt hat all is personal impact on the prisoners, the way this is presented is just so unfortunate.
