My only complaint, if you want to call it that, is that it came to a rather speedy end. Certainly, the author has to end the book at some point, but all of the loose ends got tied up SUPER fast. I got to the climatic showdown and wondered, "Boy, how's this gonna play out?" Unfortunately, it was done before I knew it. I had to go back to make sure I didn't miss something! Don't get me wrong because it wasn't a dissatisfying ending though there was a line spoken by one of the characters at one point about 85% of the way through that tipped me off as to how it probably will end (and it did). Having made this comment, I would still recommend the book. It is enjoyable.
So, I would recommend the book. The supernatural elements are nothing over the top. Nothing gory, though death/murder occur. Certainly pulls from real-world situations such as prostitution, alcoholism, and abuse. Characters and plot carry the story through to conclusion with no melodrama that makes you want to put it down. It's not too fast or too slow, though the ending happens fast and leads you to expect another book.
The characters are not likable and if you can not sink into the characters then, AGAIN, hard to like the book. The storyline was full of holes and hard to follow some of the flip flopping.
WHY OH WHY do so many female authors seem to think that they have to make an OVERLY FLAWED and OVERLY RUDE AND HARD TO LIKE female lead character?? This is not the first female author to do this and it puzzles me that they can not make a good believe strong female without making her so flawed and heartless and cold and unlikable.
The plot dragged and dragged and even flipping to the "bad guy" did not help then the ending felt triet and rushed.
I bought the first 3 - second time I did that and will never do it again, because I will not read them. I thought of trying the second and saying well, first might not be so good, but in looking up this author she has written other series with female leads so I do not think she needed to get the hang of it.
I like a good mystery, murder mystery, psychological thriller, and paranormal, this was none of the above.
BOTTOM LINE...would not waste my time on reading.
