Product Description

Created in conjunction with Triforce, the DOOM Collector's Edition includes an exclusive, fully-realized 12" tall collector's statue of one of DOOM's most iconic demons: the Revenant. Made of high-quality PVC and modeled from actual in-game 3D files, the Revenant stands on an LED-lit base with internal, slow-spinning turbine from the UAC facility on Mars. The DOOM Collector's Edition also includes the highly-anticipated game, packaged in an exclusive metal case.

EDIT: I tried uploading a video of the statue with the fan and LED's on, but for some reason the quality turned out to be absolute crap when viewed on this website, even though it was shot in 1080p/60fps. I have since removed it.
***Note: This is a product review. I am stating my opinion on the CE goodies, not the game itself. If you would like to read a game review, please seek it elsewhere.***

Man oh man, I love me some Doom. I've been a fan of it since the 90's, when I had the original floppy disks. Should I have been playing it at six years old? Probably not. Do I regret it? Not one bit. I have been looking forward to this game for some time, and when I saw the statue that came with the CE, I knew I had to have it. I'm a huge fan of steelbook cases; it's simple in both design and form, and it does what it was made to do: look awesome.

The packaging itself is neatly done; Bethesda as a publisher rarely disappoints on Collector's Edition, and this one is no exception. The steelbook case is tucked away into a cutout in the foam. The statue is well cared for, nestled snugly into a dense Styrofoam mold, wrapped in plastic. Upon unwrapping it, I was only slightly disappointed to see the statue was made entirely from plastic. While I wasn't expecting any substantial amount of metal, I was hoping at least part of the base would have been. However, that slight misstep was overshadowed by the amount of detail on the statue. It seems to be hand-painted, and the Revenant looks menacing and life-like, despite the fact that it stands only about 10 inches tall. It has a nice amount of weight to it; I suspect that's due to the fan motor in the base. This is one that's not going to be easily toppled.

My bad review is specific to the Collector's Edition. The statue is the only real bonus included in the Collector's Edition, so I'm disappointed in the quality control. The statue itself is beautifully done, but it seems they had some final testing step that "screwed up" a bunch of them (looking at other reviews here).

It seems they did a great job creating the figure, and then did a final testing stage where they screwed the battery cover back on way too tight. My screw was stripped and embedded deep into the base, so I had to crack the battery cover off. There were also a bunch of white fingerprint smudges all over the bottom, which I thought was weird, but wiped off with alcohol.

I really "baby" my collectibles so I was very sad to see a nice piece mistreated before I even got it.

Wife approved!

My wife simply loves the Doom Revenant collector's statue. When I first opened the box she could not hold back her glee as I slipped the high quality PVC statue from it's cradled styrofoam package. We placed the batteries in the battery compartment and switched on the spinning fan and LED lights. That's all my wife needed, the main lights were off and the red LED lights set the mood with the statue watching. The statue really is a true work of art.

My day dream ended with reality once my Amazon box arrived. I opened the box and everything seemed in order. I was scared at first as all the reviews I have read seemed to point to a lack of quality control. Luckily my statue was in full working and perfect condition.

So what comes in the collector's edition? Simply put the game in a steal case and the statue. It's the most bare bones collectors edition you can ever hope for. So lets get to the negatives right off the bat.

1. The lack of a REAL install disk. The disk is simply for show, don't even bother with it. This is a digital copy of the game, because only a few gigs of the game is on the disk at best. It loses a star simply because of that issue. If they did not want to put the game on the disk, a awesome behind the scenes making of Doom blu-ray would have been a better use of the steal case. It's downright shameful to include a copy of the game on disk format, but have the person wait while 40 more gigs downloads.

2. Bare bones!! NO Season pass, instead you get an insert that states "Buy the season pass!". Bethesda has really outdid themselves with the shameful marketing of their season pass with the COLLECTORS edition.

The game:
Holy crap did they nail DOOM4, the game isn't dumbed down with limited guns or regenerating health. You've also got big maps like in other old school games, where there's different routes or secret paths you can scope out. The gore is incredible, ripping and tearing enemies in half with your bear freakin' hands, chainsawing enemies in half or just gibbing them to bits with a double barrel shotgun blast.
There's a lot of replayability in the game, where you can try to find more secrets or upgrade parts for your weapons. Or, heck you can find secrets and get some guns early.
Er, let me back pedal a bit, yes upgrade your weapons, you get 2 parts per weapon that adds an alt fire of some kind and they have upgrades on that that you unlock with challenge points. For your shotgun you can get a grenade launcher or a burst fire mod, chaingun's alt fire will spin the barrel or the other option is to turn it into a 3 barrel-tri-chaingun that sprays bullets like a hose.
Your armor upgrades are more health capacity, or armor, ammo.

It's weird but, it's fine. It makes the secrets worth looking for. That said I think you can beat the game scarping by with minimal pickups. There's a bunch of difficulty options, a load of guns and ways to play. I freaking love this game. It's gorgeous, has a lot of variety, the animations are incredible.
There's some concessions with the upgrades but they're not complex, it's just options to make your guns do different things. Not stats or any of the usual RPG bs you see shoved in shooters these days.

It's a great game, they did a fine job and I think it's worth playing. I can't say how long I played it since I did some playing around so my steam play time isn't accurate but overall I've gotten 24 hours.
