Developed by id software, the studio that pioneered the first-person shooter genre and created multiplayer Death match, DOOM returns as a brutally fun and challenging modern-day shooter experience. Relentless demons, impossibly destructive guns, and fast, fluid movement provide the foundation for intense, first-person combat - whether you're obliterating demon hordes through the depths of Hell in the single-player campaign, or competing against your friends in numerous multiplayer modes.

I'm having more fun with the online multiplayer than I ever imagined. You'll always want to play one more round, it is addictive. I love the variety of game modes beyond simple deathmatch and the many different weapons and playstyles that you will employ. Playing as a demon is a blast. I think multiplayer has the potential to be popular and long-lasting on the Switch because it will no doubt be the best FPS experience on this console for some time to come.
There had to be some performance cutbacks in order to make this game run on a portable console, which was an impressive accomplishment in itself. The game runs at 30 frame-per-second instead of 60 and the resolution caps out at 720p and will sometime drop to handle more stressing moments of gameplay. Those who place a big emphasis on graphics or are used to playing it on a more powerful system may be turned off by the downgrade. Personally it hasn't affected my enjoyment at all. I've been playing it mostly on my TV and it still looks and plays beautifully. In handheld mode, the main problem is that in-game text might be too tiny to read - hopefully they correct this in a patch.
I wish they included gyro motion aiming like in Splatoon - maybe they could still add it later. It has taken a little bit of adjusting to get used to the two-stick controls again. You may want to change the sensitivity and motion blur settings until you are comfortable. I've mostly played on the Pro Controller and I think that's the best way to play.
Multiplayer requires a 9 GB download. If you buy the game digitally then that is another 13 GB download. It can really eat into the Switch's 32 GB of storage so I thought this was a good time to buy a micro SD card to add more space on my console.
Despite the graphical downgrade, Doom is a massively fun and singular FPS on the Switch. Multiplayer is a blast and I expect to play countless rounds in the weeks and months to come. This game is an excellent and essential addition to the Nintendo Switch library.
The cons: it might not look as impressive, but to have this in a portable version, for a busy person like myself, I was not that mad about the lack of graphics. It seems to me this is the main gripe of every port, but if you want to be able to take Doom anywhere, the pros outweigh the cons.
DOOM for switch is a very optimized version, it has been perfectly tailored for the system. This version provides the same brutal doom experience you find in PC or other consoles, as someone who owns and completed the PS4 game, I can say that I'm very satisfied with the port and don't plan to go back to play the PS4 version. This is easily the best looking game on switch, it runs at stable 30 fps.
The game itself is fantastic, the campaign alone is worth the full price, the best campaign you'll find in any modern FPS. Muliplayer is insanely fast and satisfying, the progression system is so well designed that you'll always find yourself playing more and more to obtain the myriad of unlockables.
It has a huge repertory of game modes, both team based and free for all, plus the classic DM and TDM.
For the Switch version, the game really stands out in handheld mode. It looks fantastic on the Switch's screen. In TV mode the game is just as fun, but graphics junkies will be put off by its sub-par "finish" as compared to other platforms. I, personally, enjoy DOOM in either mode.
The only reason I rated it four stars instead of five is the multiplayer. It's very run-of-the-mill and incredibly average. If you're purchasing DOOM, buy it for the campaign. The replay value is in the campaign arcade mode (play levels with a high score in mind).
If you have a Switch and you need to scratch your FPS itch, do not hesitate to purchase DOOM. Money well spent.
