The Battle for Earth has begun.

As a genetically engineered war machine, Doom lives for a single purpose: eradicating the Kryptids. Coming to Earth with his brothers to save the humans should be a straightforward matter. But years of bloody battles throughout the galaxy have not prepared him for the fiery Victoria. Enchanted by the courage of that wisp of a woman, Doom offers her his protection and that of his fearless war beast, Stran, as she attempts to rescue other wounded humans. After disaster strikes their homeworld, the Xian Warriors now also face extinction.

Will the Kryptids finally defeat their only real threat, or will the delicate human that has stolen both of Doom’s hearts also be the Warriors’ seed of hope?

Doom is a full-length novel and the extended version of the short-story originally published as part of Pets in Space 4. Due to its recent addition, the entire series has been renumbered to respect the chronology of events. The proper reading order is therefore as follows:

A very exciting introduction to the Xian Warriors who fought to keep the Kryptids from overtaking earth. The battles with the invaders seem relentless. Victoria, with her need to help whomever she can, soon runs into Doom and his team. I adore Doom’s companion, a Creckel named Stran. He’s an amazing, intelligent being who makes sure Victoria stays safe while Doom battles Kryptids. This is such an exciting story - edge of your seat action throughout! I love learning about the early years, and the Xian interactions with human women. Particularly learning about Victoria and Doom. What a satisfying love story! It was far more dangerous for Xian Warriors during that time period, when they were just learning of the skills earth women could contribute to the war against the Kryptids. Even if you’ve already read the books that follow, you won’t want to miss this story. It’s well-balanced between thrilling, deadly encounters with Kryptids, the struggles for survival for Xians (and their support crew), and romance at its best. Awesome storytelling!

This book started out well. I felt a connection with the main character, and there was great suspense, but the romance... It bordered on juvenile and fairytale like. There were sufficient graphic descriptions for the sex, but I felt nothing for them. He was like hey, and she was like hey, and then they were in love. Half the book was descriptions of what was happening and lots of time jumps. She got jealous at one point and I thought finally something, but he said she was the only one for him and next she’s best friends with the other girl. So weird. It seemed like a short story that was padded to make it a full novel. No real plot. No real story. No real villain, just some annoying bugs to kill. No buying more books.

First off to clear up some confusion, Doom is listed as book 1 but actually came out after Bane: book 4. For others whom are first finding this wonderful series yo will get to read the series from start to finish. For the rest of us, whom started with Legion as our book 1, I just want to thank Ms. Abel for giving us Doom and Victoria's story for which I thoroughly enjoyed.
