Dots and Boxes
In Dots and Boxes, you are presented with a set of dots in a 5x5 grid. One by one, each player must fill in a horizontal or vertical line between two dots. The player that completes a box by filling in the fourth side captures that box. Completing a box allows a player to immediately make another move. When all 16 boxes are claimed, the player with the most boxes wins.
Play against Kindle at Easy, Medium or Hard difficulty levels. You can also play against another person in Pass 'n' Play mode and select whether a match requires 2, 3 or 4 wins to complete. Dots and Boxes comes with tips and instructions to help you if you get stuck, and also tracks your best scores, wins, and ties for each difficulty level.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 12, 2011If you have kids, you've no doubt been in a family restaurant where they hand out kid menus. One of the most common games on those paper menus is the Dots and Boxes game (although they often call it something else).
It's uper easy: you place lines--one at a time--on a grid. But you have to be strategic, because the first one to COMPLETE a box, wins it. In the case of the Kindle version of the game, if you "win" a box, you're the elephant. If Kindle wins, it's the lion. (That's 1-player. You can also play 2 players, which is cool. Haven't tried that yet, though.)
It's great for strategic thinking, because you can't just lay down lines. You have to think ahead to see what lines would complete what boxes...and how many at a time (which may be many!).
It's easy to navigate the game, too. Just use the squarae controller to select the box you want the line to frame, and then choose the directional button as to where you want to put it (up, down, right or left). Super simple!
If you're waiting at the Doctor's office, riding on a train or just want a quick diversion, this is a great game. And it's free! Can't be THAT price, right?

- Reviewed in the United States on July 20, 2012It's classic Dots and Boxes logic game - personally I'm very happy to play it on Kindle. I'm professional puzzler, but have very enjoyed this app, especially on Kindle Touch.
What I like:
1. App works really smoothly and fast.
2. You can play with computer (aka Kindle) and with other user.
3. Very nice graphic.
4. There is detailed Stat section - it's missing in most Kindle games.
What I would like to see new:
1. There is only 4x4 board. But it would be nice to play on 3x3 and 5x5 boards.
2. Timer would be nice.
3. There is no restart of the current game - you can Undo or start new game.
Note: you can play app on Kindle, Kindle Touch, Kindle Keyboard, Kindle DX and Kindle (2nd Generation) devices.
In overall - very enjoyable logic game with smooth gameplay and nice graphic.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 30, 2012When my friend first told me about this game, I was really excited. My friends and I play this while waiting at restaurants, and I thought, "Hey, why not get it for my kindle touch?" I wasn't impressed. You need to have more boxes that you can get and make the game more challenging when you're playing the computer. I'm 13 and was able to get all of the boxes for myself when playing the computer on 'hard'. If you are looking to get this game for a kid between the ages of 5 and 9, go ahead. They'll love it because the characters are lions and elephants, and the game is just the right difficulty level for them. If you are older than 9, don't bother wasting your time on this product.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 18, 2013Once in awhile I will shop around on Amazon to see if there are any new FREE games. I don't spend a lot of time playing games on my kindle, but it is fun to have a few available, for when you are standing in line or waiting in the car for kids at school,...etc... and you don't want to get involved in your current novel.
I somehow missed this one in the past, so downloaded it last week.
I played this as a kid and played it with my kids with pencil and paper. This Kindle version is a lot slower, because each move involves moving the toggle, pressing and then selecting which side to put the line, rather than just drawing a line with your pencil. Still, it's cool to pull out and play a quick game or have an easy game to hand to the kids or grandkids so they don't get impatient 'waiting' here and there.
Like others have mentioned, it would be cool if the grid could get larger. When I saw that there was an easy, med., and hard setting, I assumed that's what it did--- changed the size of the grid. But no.
I've always played against the machine, and haven't tried but also can't even imagine playing against another human and having to pass the kindle back and forth. Too much effort for this game and I think that would get boring after about a minute and a half.
A thought/recommendation: I really like, and prefer 'Jigsaw Words', also FREE!
Still because the price is right, I'll say "THANKS AMAZON", and keep this one on my Kindle too!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 14, 2011This is an easy and fun free kindle game. An easy version can be played in less than five minutes. You can choose a medium or harder game. One or two people can play. The goal is to join dots with a line and make a box out of four lines. If two play, the player who has the most boxes wins. If one person plays, he/she will be playing against the kindle. Each player can join a line once before the next player plays. However, if the player completes a box, the player continues until he/she is unable to complete a box. The game has easy to read full instructions with tips.
