From the Author
If you love TV shows like Homeland and Alias, if you love stories about conflicted loyalties and that undeniable, deep attraction that means you just *have to be with someone,* no matter what, if you love big, strong, outwardly cold and very alpha heroes who believe they're incapable of love but then meet the one woman who changes their lives...you're probably going to like this book.

An opportunity comes up for Hailey to become Christina and infuriates his empire. There are many twists and turns, love and betrayals but in the end will love prevail!
We get to visit previous characters and meet new ones. I recommend the book as well as any of Ms Newbury books, you won’t be disappointed!
I read just about anything, across a broad spectrum of genres. So suspending my disbelief in a story line isn’t all that difficult, especially in a fantasy. But this story is entrenched in the real world, with real world actions and consequences. Granted, as a writer you take some liberties and embellish and stretch the truth to make your story stand out—but seriously? There still needs to be some basis for plausibility.
It was as though the author’s research consisted of viewing every crime drama TV series ever created. From CSI to Law and Order to Chicago PD to TJ Hooker. And then crammed every over the top scenario she could come up with into one bad scene after another. From rogue FBI agent to the idiot FBI Director who will do anything to bring down a mob boss. Which includes sending a ‘not’ FBI agent with no training whatsoever into a deadly situation that (in real life) can only end badly. No law enforcement agency would ever send someone so ill-prepared into such a (supposedly) dangerous environment. In real life people get killed, agencies get sued and somebody gets fired behind that kind of reckless stupidity.
I only made it 30% through the book. I just couldn’t make myself go further. I couldn’t get past my disbelief in the entire plot or all the holes that needed plugging. I couldn’t decide which aspect was the most offensive to my ability to swallow what the author was selling. Was it how the heroine, out of a sense of civic duty, volunteers to change her life and her face forever? With no certified training in undercover work and no psych evaluation? Then, she is miraculously transformed via plastic surgery; eye surgery and laser surgery into the perfect double in just three weeks. But wait, there’s a total disconnect in personalities/attitudes. The whole good vs evil thing where she can’t seem to bring herself to be the ‘mean girl’. But…isn’t that the point? Or was it that the hero is a cunning mob boss too smart to be taken down by the FBI, but too stupid to know the difference between a woman he’s slept with for four months, and the one he’s about to jump into bed with? He’s seen every inch of her body; will he not notice bigger feet and bigger boobs or a ten year old scar that’s supposed to be new. And since this is a romance with lots of sex implied, what about the most important consideration—every vagina is not the same and they don’t come in ‘one size fits all’.
As a reader I’m disappointed. And as a member of the law enforcement community who has worked with FBI/CIA/DIA and nearly every other three letter agency you can think of, I’m appalled at the author’s lack of due diligence to do the research to portray a more realistic picture of—dare I say—real life.

I felt the premise was a little out there to start with. Plastic surgery that makes you the spitting image of someone and then the ability to perfectly mimic their voice...I don't think so! Secondly, I didn't feel the sexual chemistry between the two characters was as strong as it has been in previous books, such as Garrett and Kristina in Royal Guard, or Angelo and Irina in Kissing the Enemy or Emily and Kian from Saving Liberty...all of these couples just oozed passion, and I felt none of that from Konstantin and Hailey.
I felt like random plot points were just thrown in to tie the novel up such as the BDSM thing (didn't really see why that was needed other than to add something else in) and the stalking bunnies and hedgehogs...also! where did the cat come from? Everything was rushed, and random and I just didn't get this novel like I have the others.
Overall, I was quite disappointed with this book, but! it won't stop me reading further novels by this author because I love her characters! I will just emit this one from my recommendations!
Can't wait for the next one!
I couldn't put this one down. Helena is really good at these kind of stories. When you read them you can visualize it perfectly like a movie.
Definitely entertaining and worth a look. Brilliant, cracking read.
As the title suggests it is about an FBI agent impersonating someone and I struggled a bit at first with the concept of how that would actually work but remembering it is fiction carried on with the belief. As ever there are so many twists and turns in the storyline and clues just innocently dropped in that are crucial later. I wasn’t expecting one of the twists towards the end and had to go back to reread a couple of pages. Very cleverly crafted storyline, full of suspense but I had great sympathy for the three main characters Konstantin, Hailey and Corcoran. Great link back to Alaska and a previous book. I read mostly on the train and found myself rationing chapters at crucial points to make the enjoyment last longer. Another winner but my only reservation was how quickly the idea of a double was put forward and made to happen.
