About the Author
Doug, together with his spouse Johanne, turned in his hectic life in Vancouver and bought a One Way Ticket to a new reality. They sold and gave away everything they owned and became homeless by choice. They are rejoicing in their new found freedom.
Born and raised in Niagara Falls, Doug has always had the travel bug. Global wandering has been second nature to him. Even as a young man he was out on the road, filling up his first passport before the age of twenty-one.
After seeing much of the world, Doug settled into the Fraser Valley just east of Vancouver. The fresh mountains and the ocean were nearby for a quick escape and rejuvenation. As a longtime Rotarian, Doug likes to give back to the global community and has worked on many worthy projects over the years.
A love of sailing has added to the numerous adventures Doug has experienced, including an Atlantic crossing in a 40 foot boat. Some of his fondest memories are of cruising on “Swan” among the pristine islands of the British Columbia coast.
At 65, Doug now enjoys the wonderful life he and Johanne have designed.
They explore their exciting new world as full time House and Pet Sitters and find great joy in doing so. Together they have slow traveled to five tropical locations in twelve months while becoming immersed in local cultures and languages.
The new life that Doug is experiencing is rich with immense happiness and he greets every day with a true sense of gratitude.
