There is no heat control but I flipped it off & on again as the batter cooked. Not exactly kid-friendly but with adult supervision & help, our youngest grandchild (5 yrs.) got to make some. The hard part was flipping them over (donuts not kids) to cook. Use chopsticks or bamboo skewers to do so.
A basic recipe booklet is included. I substituted regular (not Greek) plain yogurt for buttermilk & added 1/2 tsp of vanilla. The first batch of 7 took only a few minutes to cook. Total yield: 28.
We made some plain ones & also added about 1&1/2 teaspoons of fruit preserves & cooked apples to the rest. Next time, we may try chocolate chips or Nutella. We tossed the plain ones in cinnamon & sugar and dusted the others with confectioner's sugar.
When adding filling, place in the center of the batter as it cooks then cover with a small amount of batter before flipping.
