I was using Jack Black and Art of Shaving, as you may or may not know, these are relatively expensive products; although I admit I really like Art of Shaving Lemon scent. Anyway, this is a nice product with a light and fresh scent that my wife likes, and it’s a really reasonable price point compared to the other brands I was using. Also, your skin will not feel greasy using this product. I definitely recommend giving this a try.

Bottom line, this is very effective for what it's designed for, and at a decent price. Many of these similar products products are overpriced for what they offer. I'd give it 3.5 stars if I could, but am rounding down to 3 stars.

A little goes a long way, though. I'd recommend just a pea sized dab, maybe mixed with a drop or two of water. Any more, and it can be a little greasy.

What does it smell like? I'd describe the smell of the Hydrate version as a combination of cocoa butter and almond. Not quite what I expected from Dove, but not terrible. The scent stays pretty strong for a couple of hours. I wish it had less scent, but it's acceptable for the amount of irritation relief it offers. If there was an unscented version, I'd definitely give it a full five stars and even pay slightly more.

I tend to get a very dry face after shaving, and have used a variety of after shave balms and creams. Most of them do a good job, but tend to be very strongly scented, or leave my skin feeling greasy. This product applies easily, has a very mild scent, and doesn't leave my face feeling wet or greasy. The dispenser is also nice, because it sits with the opening at the bottom, so I don't have to keep shaking the bottle to get the product out. It is easy to dispense a very small amount, which is all that I need. I have been very pleased with the way it works. I don't know how it is for "sensitive" skin, because I don't consider myself as having sensitive skin. Price is reasonable, especially if you buy the two pack.

Excellent balm - no reason to use anything else

Tried this on a whim and have since ordered another one after I came close to running out.

I no longer use any other lotion or shave balm of any kind. Even if I don't shave one day, I use this to moisturize my face.

The scent is really enjoyable and certainly not strong. Has a 'clean' smell to it.

The bottle itself can be difficult at times to get the exact amount you want out of it, but after a few tries I didn't have any issues. It does make the area around the cap a bit dirty since the excess is getting caught up in there (and it's on the bottom, so any extra will run into the cap area). I tend to clean that out every few days so I'm not getting chunks of dry balm on my face.

This hasn't irritated my skin in anyway (usually very sensitive), and although it doesn't immediately calm razor burn (what does?), it leaves my face smooth and never looks oily. I'll keep buying this as long as they keep making it.

I have tried many different brands of sensitive skin aftershave balm. Dove is the most cost-effective one I have found, and I am completely pleased with the results. The packaging is helpful, too. Some of the products come in glass bottles, And product is wasted. With the squeezable plastic bottle dove users I feel that I am able to use almost all of the product.

This is the best after-shave balm I have ever used. Tried balms made by Gillette and Nivea. The Hydrate version of this Dove for Men after-shave balm is by far the best. It is soothing for my skin, has a pleasant scent, comes in an easy to use container, and is an exceptionally good value. I wish it were sold in stores, but buying through Amazon is OK. My guess is that balms are more popular in countries outside the US.

A Very Good Moisturizer - Strong Scent

I am a long-time Nivea user, but thought I would give the Dove Men's Hydrating balm a try. Since Nivea has undoubtedly changed it's formula to a stronger scent, I was looking for something not quite as overpowering. This was not my answer. It is as strong as the "new" Nivea. So I guess stronger smelling after-shave balms must be the rage now. You definitely do not need to use a lot of this balm at one time. I already use Dove hair care products (which I really like), and this Dove balm has the same scent. But like the "new" Nivea, this is still too strong for my liking. My wife likes the scent as along as I am on the other side of the room, so now I will switch back and forth between my Nivea and this Dove.

I love this stuff. Since I started using it a few years ago I don't even bother with other stuff. My skin is very sensitive and I break out with razor burn very easily. This soothes it and feels good. Spreads easily, and my wife loves the smell of it which is always a bonus.

I am now using this product as a pre-shave for my Norelco shaver. It works great for that purpose as well as an after shave.

It turns out this is not a good idea. The balm doesn't dissolve easily and tends to gum up the works, especially the Norelco Smart Clean device.
