Product Description
Allison Moorer's newest eOne album, "Down To Believing" is being hailed as her best body of work, Despite her previously earned nominations for an Academy Award for Best Song and a Grammy. The album features Moorer's warm, distinctive vocals on 13 self-written, genre-crossing tracks that explore a wide range of topics, drawn from her own true life experiences, both positive and negative. Rolling Stone has called Allison's new album "Brilliant and extraordinarily candid..." and early reviews are in total accord with that summary.
Review
'Brilliant and extraordinarily candid...Down to Believing could stand as one of the finest albums of 2015...' --Rolling Stone
'...an emotionally raw yet aesthetically fine album. Moorer may have reached into the depths for these songs, but she's delivered us the gift of a burning light...the most focused and candid recording in her catalog...' --AllMusic.com

"Down to Believing” is about the voice and is even more about the words sung by the voice. Judging from the liner notes, Allison Moorer is responsible for most of the words found on the record. John Fogerty wrote one of the songs and John has rarely been in such good company. These songs will move you if you possess a beating heart. Allison Moorer has endured in her life an episode that was most painful. I don’t know any of the details and won’t seek them out. For those of us who have had similar experiences, the precise facts don’t matter as much as the common factors shared by all who have been similarly situated. Allison Moorer has expressed thoughts and feelings on “Down to Believing” with which many people can identify.
“It comes down to believing whether we do or we don’t; guess it comes down to staying or leaving, whether we will or we won’t.” We have a choice which is not easy, but it is a choice.
“I’ve lived and I’ve learned, guess I’m pretty smart, but I still don’t know why you want to tear me apart.” This is the reason why the existence of the choice has come to mind and it’s a painful motivation.
“If I were stronger I’d hold on longer’ I’d be a savior and I’d stay; I’d love you better right through the anger. I’d hold on longer if I were stronger:” Well, maybe I’m partly to blame even though I KNOW that I am not.
“I finally changed the sheets, I’m tired of sleeping on the floor; if you want your old guitar it’s sitting out on the porch; I just want you to know that I’m doing fine.” I’m putting on a brave face but I dissemble.
“Got a true blue heart, but every now and then it might skip a beat, and it falls apart, shatters like a whiskey glass around my feet; pick it up one more time and I know I’m gonna get it wrong but it’s alright.” I messed up with you and I still don’t have it just right for me -- BUT I WILL!
This is a superb record. You owe it to yourself to get it. No better fine, marvelous, lovely, delightful, sublime, spectacular, and moving voice can be heard and you will be moved. It's early in the year and this is already one of the year's best.
On "Down To Believing," her singing and songwriting are as good, if not better, than ever. Allison has always worn her heart on her sleeve, but this time she may have topped even herself. The song "Blood" is the prime example, for me, on the cd. You know she's talking about her sister, and the emotion is palpable. I won't attempt to write a complete critique of the cd. However, any cd where I love 11 of the 13 songs, is a blockbuster, in my opinion.
I've been an Allison fan since 1998, and first saw her perform in 1999 in Greensboro, NC. From that day on, I tried to see her perform in person as often as possible. In my long experience, I've never seen or heard another artist that affected me as much as Allison. Sure, she's beautiful, but that's not her main attraction. She is the complete package of talent, voice, personality, vulnerability and emotion. Plus, she has NO need for, nor does she ever use any "autotuning" on her cd's. Her voice is just THAT good.
Please, do yourself a favor and give her music a try. Any of the cd's I mentioned, including this one, would be worthy picks, but actually, anything she sings is great. It all depends on what style of music is to your liking.
Overall if you are an Allison Moorer fan you will like this album, it grows on you the more you listen to it. I would give the album a 4 1/2 rating if their were half points!
I thought I had this CD from years ago however I looked at all my "current CDs" and could not find this.
I know I had in August 2016 when I was divorcing my ex because the songs were right on cue for what was happening in my life. Perhaps I had the mp3 version but couldn't find it on any thumb drive for my car.
So, 'ordered the CD. I 'm happily singing in my car again.

Ce nouvel opus sans surprise particulière est agréable à écouter.
De beaux arrangements , une voie très agréable à l'écoute et de la belle musique.
Es una de las grandes.
Usually with albums there is a track or two I don't think a lot to but this isn't the case here. "Like It Used To Be" is a strong opener and things don't really let up. My personal favourites are "Back Of My Mind" and the title track itself. As well as her own creations Allison has always covered songs well. Her version of the Joni Mitchell classic "Both Sides Now" from her Mockingbird album backs that up and her cover of "Have You Ever Seen The Rain" is another DTB highlight and helps to close out what for me is a really good listen, whether I am in the car or lying on the sofa with a glass of wine. Cheers Allison.
