What do readers get when Ms. Kincaid pens a story encompassing a strong hero tortured by his past and a resilient and feisty heroine determined to do everything she can to help her brother; highly entertaining dialogue that -- at times -- kept this reader on the edge-of-her-seat; and a fast-paced plot that drew this reader in from the very beginning and made it impossible to put this book down? Well, the answer is an utterly satisfying and mesmerizing read where this couple's chemistry is off-the-charts and their scorching romance does their chemistry justice.
As for the dialogue, it was intense due to the main characters back stories and everything they go through on their journey to happy ever after, as Ian has survivor's guilt due to his time as a marine while Kennedy feels she's let her brother down. Will the pair be able to help her brother? Will Kennedy be able to help Ian heal from his past? Moreover, I loved both the main characters. They were incredible and have such a great support team in the secondary characters who will do anything to take down someone determined to cause so much destruction.
With the heroine, she really impressed me with the way she stands up to Ian when he thinks he knows what's best for her. Certainly, her it's-my-way-or-I-go-it-alone attitude and her determination to help her brother makes things interesting and cause plenty of tension since Ian doesn't like how trusting Kennedy is of her brother. Yet, what I liked most of all about the heroine is the way she helps Ian to work through his past. Things happen for a reason and what happened wasn't his fault. While the hero, he's been through so much in his past and I couldn't help but sympathize with him, as his parents weren't the best of parents and it's understandable why he joined to the marines as a way to escape. However, everything that's happened in his past has made him the resilient and remarkable man he is. I also liked how determined he was to protect Kennedy, even though she's really good at protecting herself.
Overall, this story was a fantastic read, as too, are the other books of this series. As for the ending, it had me worried for the main characters and was a total shock because of what happens, but I loved how things worked out for Ian and Kennedy as they're so good together and for each other. Deep Down by Kimberly Kincaid will appeal to fans of authors Jennifer Bernard, Kate Meader, Shannon Stacey and Jennifer Blackwood, but in my opinion it's a must read just like the first three books of the series are.
Are you ready to go deep and fall hard for two of my favourite characters ever? I’m not kidding, I LOVED Gamble and Kennedy. These two hard as nails characters stole my heart completely and I’m more than happy to have it happen.
I’ve been waiting for what felt like forever to read this story. I knew going in I had high expectations, but the author totally went above and beyond them and left me breathless more than once while I devoured this book. (Okay, I’ve totally read it more than once since I got it, I can’t help it I loved it so much)
The title of this book is perfect because both these characters are complicated and have buried a lot down deep just to get through life. Its only the other who can break those barriers and get through to the real person below and when that happens, all bets are off.
I loved Kennedy, she is tough but with a heart of gold that’s a little dented due to her upbringing, but she’s the one you would want in your corner every single time. I loved that she is so fierce and would do anything for her baby brother or those close to her. Gamble never had chance and I love that.
As for Gamble, OMG!!! I’m trying to be really good here and not turn this whole review into a love note to him, but it’s killing me. I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED him. The big oaf with a soft side that you don’t expect and excuse me while I just hand over my panties and heart right now. I will no longer need either. Yes, he’s that good.
Put him head to head with a heroine like Kennedy and not only will get a formidable pairing, but off the charts chemistry, heat and more heart and heartbreak than you expected but will not be sorry for one little bit. Fair warning, you will need tissues for this read. And okay maybe a new pair of panties too because they are HOT, HOT, HOT.
It’s not just all about the smoking hot chemistry between Gamble and Kennedy though, there is villain who is seriously just pure evil and who makes my skin crawl just thinking about him, threats to someone close to Kennedy and more than enough suspense to keep you glued to the pages. I’m not going to give anything away, you need to read it.
It should be said that this book is part of series, but you can absolutely read it as a stand-alone. But that said, I highly recommend that this is a series you need to read. It’s addictive.
Thank you Kimberly Kincaid for taking me on a ride I won’t be forgetting soon and for Gamble and Kennedy’s HEA, it’s perfect.
Gamble and Kennedy become personally aware of each other on a night that is a very emotional anniversary of Gamble’s. He wants anonymity and she feels his emotional darkness. This beginning is so good. It sucks you in and keeps you hooked and completely engaged for the entire story.
Gamble is one of the hardest nuts to crack with his quiet intenseness and being a very large, muscular man, compounds his presence. Kennedy is just as intense in her way, with her tough, don’t mess with me attitude, born from living on the “wrong side of town”, living and surviving within that rough neighborhood. I would definitely want her at my back if there was ever any trouble!
Together, Gamble and Kennedy are a perfect fit. They just want to feel like they are part of a family and to be happy. Their hot, sexy chemistry makes for a volatile relationship when each has their own way of doing things. I love this mixture of self confidence and the ability to carry it through. Trust is hard to earn but these two earn it for each other quickly.
I loved this story from beginning to end. I could have kept on reading about this couple, their future, and more of their happenings at Station Seventeen, but then all great things must have an ending. This is a Best Seller for sure!
