My favorite stories are; F&F and Intellectuals Are Fools.
There were lines within these short stories that will stay with me.
I am not the monster underneath the bed. I was the assassin leaving lipstick stains on your skin.
The bite mark she left on my neck before whispering, “Can I have you,” in my ear made me flush and harden all over.
And then there are parts that made me think and try to understand how that person was feeling. Sometimes I was confused just like they were, because I didn’t understand. I wanted to, I really did, but I just couldn’t take the leap to connect the dots. While I over all enjoyed this book and the themes in the stories, I felt like I wanted more to the stories. I no sooner would get into the story and it was over, I wanted more! Which is good! Because it leads me to read other books by Ms. Cie.
I gave this book 2 stars because of the thoughts and feelings it invoked in me. I would have loved to read more of the story between Ly and Brendan, and Mary’s story just stayed with me. All of the components of a meaningful story were there I just don’t think they were executed well. It took too long to really grasp what was going on every time it switched characters and overall I just felt confused.
I believe this author was trying to bring to light the fact that there have been members of the LGBT community in all walks of life and in all time periods. I think she was trying to raise awareness and show people that love is love no matter what form it takes. Overall this was a confusing book with a wonderful message of acceptance and love.
