Ace Anderson was run out of his old school, Western U. It wasn't because of his performance as a quarterback on the field. He delivered two championships for the team. It was because the coach hated him with a passion for dating his daughter. It didn't matter that his daughter was a willing participant or that she was just as wild as Ace. Ace committed the worst sin a player could commit. The coach's vendetta not only hurt Ace's pride but also his potential for playing his senior year of college. Ace was being forced to give up his position as quarterback to a future freshman hotshot for another offensive position or sit the bench. This vendetta not only cost him the respect of his teammates but also added to the divide with his best friend Lucy Washington. The only choice he could make was transferring to Southern U for his senior year of college.
New beginnings aren't always what they are cracked up to be. He is having trouble bonding with his new team. On the field they are a solid unit but off the field he is the odd man out. They have heard the rumors of his past experiences. They are going to make him earn their respect. Ace is going to have to change his ways if he wants to become a true member of the team. Bryant Johnson knows a project when she sees one. Ace Anderson needs her help and he needs it fast if they are going to become a championship team.
Bryant Johnson is the coach's daughter. A big red flag for Ace Anderson. His past experiences have left him charred. Here at Southern U attitudes are quite different. His teammates and his coach are encouraging him to date Bryant.
Bryant is known for her dating projects. Her objective to make her boyfriends better men. She prepares them to be better boyfriends, better teammates, and better individuals. After she fixes her project she moves onto the next one. Ace Anderson is proving to be much more difficult than she thought. Her intentions for Ace are changing as she gets to know the man beneath the surface. He still needs a lot of work but he is a keeper.
Bryant is known for her generous heart and selfless giving. She takes care of others. Who takes care of her? Ace sees the vulnerable woman beneath the shiny surface. That's the woman that has his heart. This time he wants to win the girl's heart. He wants to take care of her and share his life.
Jen Frederick scored big with Downed. This book was a true game changer for Ace Anderson. Ace won more than his third college championship. He won my heart.
This story focuses on JR "ACE" Anderson. He has transfered from his previous school and now has a second chance to prove himself at Southern U. Though his reputation preceeds him, his teammates are less than receptive and he ends up with the one person who has potential to ruin his season before it begins, he does his best to overcome his obsticals.
Bryant Johnson is the girl everybody loves. She is the "go to" person for anyone in need. After suffering a tragic loss, she is determined to help make other's lives better. She even goes as far as having "personal projects" of men she helps be better people for the potential people they will date. When she sets her sites on ACE, neither of them are prepared for what will happen.
Jen Frederick continued to capture my heart with this story. From start to finish I, couldn’t wait to find out what would happen next. I love her sense of humor and her tremendous ability to tell a great story. I can't wait to read more from her in the future!
I haven't had a reaction about a character I disliked so strongly in a long time.
But never the less, I picked up Downed because of all of the reviews, and the fact that Jen Frederick is such an awesome writer that I just had to give Ace a second chance.
I winded up loving Ace, and this book in general. Bryant is what really did it for me.
I adored her. She was a sweet southern bell with a heart of gold. I loved how everyone adored her and she in return cared about everyone.
I just knew she was going to be perfect for Ace. Ace was a grade A jerk, but he redeemed himself.
I can not wait for the next book in this series. I am seriously on pins and needles.
Um, yeah. That's true. I didn't like JR "Ace" Anderson at all after his actions in the second book in the Gridiron series, Jockblocked. I wasn't actually very excited to read his book, but I adore Jen Frederick's writing and I knew she would be able to change my mind about him. She totally did.
Ace started out acting in Downed much like did in Jockblocked. I had a hard time connecting with his cocky self-centeredness. He didn't seem to be able to see beyond himself and I didn't like that or him. Then, Bryant appeared on the scene.
Oh my, that girl Bryant. What a character! I wasn't sure what to make of her at first. Bryant's southern charm was over the top and almost ridiculous -- but for some reason it worked. Her sugary sweetness had such an interesting impact on Ace. Bryant confused him and I loved it. She was everything Ace needed -- in and out of the bedroom! Bryant healed Ace in ways he didn't even realize he needed to be healed. And Ace did the same thing for her. Bryant helped Ace realize the type of man he truly was -- one I could love.
There were also several other men I adored in Downed. First, Bryant's dad. What a sweetheart! I loved how much he was involved in the story and Bryant's life. Second, all of the other football players. They were such a rowdy group! I especially loved their interactions with Bryant. So cute and funny!
I loved Downed. It proved what an amazing writer Jen Frederick is. I truly didn't think Ace was going to be redeemable, but she proved he could be. I highly recommend this book and series to anyone who enjoys a fantastic sports romance.
