This is the future of real sustainability - no food is ever wasted from the produce aisle, to fruits, to the meat and seafood department, we've created a solution that comes to the rescue - collecting it all just as it is expiring and would have otherwise been thrown away. Food waste from San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, Tampa, Houston, Atlanta, Seattle and major cities are now being collected and converted into omri listed organic fertilizers proudly offered by Dr. Earth advanced organics. This means that what was once landfill waste material can grow vegetables, trees, and everything that grows in the soil all across America. Nothing is wasted and would-be waste is upcycled. This is the real future of a sustainable solution.

Nitrogen promotes green leaves, phosphate promotes flowers, which is why it’s a good idea to use a high phosphate fertilizer on your established flowering plants. This 3% phosphate fertilizer doesn’t deliver enough phosphate to be particularly helpful to my heavy-feeding brugmansia and its huge blooms. (The Miracle Gro product works very well.)
That said, I don’t think you can go very far wrong with Dr. Earth fertilizers. My two favorite local nurseries (Berkeley Horticultural, Annie’s Annuals) carry the full Dr. Earth product line, so I know it's pretty good.
It's easy to mix. It doesn't smell good but it's natural and safe for my plant babies. The smell doesn't last once it is watered. It does work - I have tons of buds now and the blooms that were already there hurried up and burst open.
I'm happy with it.
I've seen no difference at all in adding this in. We have 2 flower beds, so I treated 1 with this and left the other with our usual Miracle Gro. The bed with this stuff is no different than if I hadn't added anything. The Miracle Gro bed is lush and full.
In looking on the bottle, it only contains 3% phosphate, the substance that feeds blooms. The Miracle Gro bottle has 30%. So the "High Phosphate" part of the title is a big enough exaggeration to be a flat out untruth.
I'm going with 2 stars, but only because it's made from basically recycled food and is safe around pets.
