Dr. Erica Miller is a Holocaust survivor. Born in Romania, she and her family were imprisoned in a Nazi holding camp for four years. In her autobiography, Dr. Miller tells a no-holds-barred story of bravery, survival and unprecedented accomplishment that is both riveting and inspirational.

Editorial Reviews

Review

''Unlike most Holocaust survivor stories, Miller only touches upon events of the past, focusing more upon the life that evolved from these events. Her journey to Israel, her unusual service in the Israeli Air Force, and her entry into the field of mental health all make up the heart of the story more so than her Holocaust experiences in a combination of inspirational reading and autobiography that traces the evolution of grit, determination and lessons from this survivor's experiences.'' --- Diane Donovan, Midwest Book Review

Dr. Erica Miller was born on November 10, 1933 in Tshernovitz, Romania. For seven years, Erica and her family lived a “normal” life. When she was seven, Erica and her family were among thousands of Jews herded into cattle cars and imprisoned in a Nazi holding camp in Mogilev, Ukraine. After four years of indescribable oppression and deprivation, Erica, her parents, and her sister were liberated by the Russians.

Her family emigrated to Israel in 1949, when she was 15. Erica attended high-school at night while working during the day. Since education was not a priority at that time, receiving her high school diploma was an uncommon accomplishment.

After high school, Erica pursued her dream to join the Israeli Air Force. She served proudly from 1954 to 1956. After her military service, she landed a prestigious job at the Israeli Government Tourist Information Office in Tel Aviv where she worked from 1956-1958.

Next, fate and opportunity brought her to Los Angeles, California, where she attended the University of Judaism (now American Jewish University) to pursue a degree in Hebrew education. While in Los Angeles, she met her future husband, Jerry Miller. Together they built a nest and filled it with two children.

In 1970, Erica returned to school. Eight years later, she graduated with a Ph.D. in clinical psychology. Shortly afterwards, she opened a chain of mental health clinics throughout Los Angeles and Orange County, which she ran for more than 30 years.

Today, in addition to public speaking, Dr. Miller oversees her family’s real estate business in Austin, Texas. She’s written three books, “The Dr. Erica Miller Story: From Trauma to Triumph,” “Don’t Tell Me I Can’t Do It: Living Audaciously in the Here and Now” and the international best-seller, “Chronologically Gifted: Aging with Gusto!”

Dr. Miller has always considered herself a citizen of the world. She travels extensively and pushes the envelope everywhere she goes. In June 2018, she climbed to the 17,000 ft. base camp at Mt. Everest, and in August 2018, she skydived in New Zealand. Her international adventures with family and friends continue to demonstrate how her passion for life fuels her endless drive to achieve and live life to its fullest.

My husband & I recently read "The Dr. Erica Miller Story: From Trauma to Triumph and each of us couldn't put the book down (good thing I bought 2 copies of the book, one of which I intend to give to my mother who's an avid reader).

I highly recommend this book to anyone who's interested in reading a non-fictional book that's well-written, engaging, and refreshingly candid. While this book is based on a true, heart-wrenching childhood of a Holocaust survivor, it also highlights how Dr. Miller overcame adversities in her early years and accomplished amazing feats in her later years.

We strongly suggest that you read this terrific book--you'll be glad you did!

I have read Dr. Miller's other books but this is my favorite. I love biographies and enjoyed reading the ups and downs of her life. Although I have never endured anything even close to the holocaust I could relate to every part of her journey starting as a little girl up through adulthood. It is a must read! Entertaining from start to finish.

A compelling life story told candidly by Dr. Miller of living through the absolute worse of times, the Holocaust, and her struggles to have the life and successes she wanted. Book is straight forward and honest, and a life story you keep wanting to learn more about. By the end you feel as you know Erica as a good friend.

It was a real story of how a person makes it through serious obstacles survives and then comes out strong and helps others.

If you want to be a therapist or social worker, this is the book for you. As a true history buff, I wanted way more about the war than and her later life.

For some people nothing is sacred... nothing is private.
Dr. Erica Miller is one of those people.

Having gone through multiple things in her time she decided to write about it.

Here is the publishers thoughts on "Thanks for my Journey".

Holocaust survivor and noted psychologist Dr. Erica Miller shares a no-holds-barred story of bravery, survival, and unprecedented accomplishment that is both riveting and inspirational
Born in Tshernovitz, Romania, Erica Miller was only seven years old when the Nazis forced her and her family into a holding camp in the Ukraine, where they remained for four harrowing years before being liberated. But their relief was cut short when they returned to their home and found it occupied by Russians. Only when her family immigrated to Israel was the author given the chance to escape the horrors of oppression and begin a new chapter in her life.
Facing obstacles most of us would find insurmountable, the author served in the Israeli Air Force, a rarity for women at the time, and then went on to earn a PhD in clinical psychology in America. As a dedicated mental health professional, Dr. Miller founded a chain of clinics that have helped hundreds of patients heal.
A story of hardship, perseverance, and ultimate victory, Thanks for My Journey also includes a special section where Dr. Miller shares her inspirational reflections on such topics as being Jewish, gender roles, and the power in being true to oneself.

First off I need to say I received this title free via E-book in exchange for my review of this title. And no I do not have to give a glowing review... so I won't...

Unfortunately what drew this title to me was the subtitle "A Holocaust Survivor's Story of Living Fearlessly.".... After about 20 pages the history lesson was done. The holocaust was finished and Erica and her entire family made it through the horror.

My review here is in no way a down play to her experience. I can not even imagine the horror and difficulty that she and her family experienced during this time. The sad thing is it only taught her to be self centered, closed off, and detached. So many others learn from their experiences to be grateful for life, living it to its fullness and grateful to be alive.

Dr. Miller's experiences led her to be a very detached individual; not the best parent due to this; not the best sibling, friend, or spouse. Not a team player etc... In fact in her book she applauds the selfish nature she learned to have.

It is funny how sometimes the most messed up individual becomes a psychologist. Add to that her fascination with the psychic, paranormal, and hypnosis... and you get a very unique approach on life.

As a Christian I found it sad to read where she considers herself an agnostic. Wish someone would introduce her to God, the one who walked her through the Holocaust; who kept her safe in the Army; who brought her to America; and who seeks to use her strengths to make His name known.

1.0 out of 5 stars Rubbish, boring, boastful.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 29, 2012
I could not read all of this utter rubbish, author comes across, as selfish, poor self esteem, thrives on adulation,it states everybody ,either liked or loved her, nobody
was as smart or cleverer, than her,she admits to not being maternal, thats probably
because nothing, mattered only her,the book consists of all she has achieved, its
like nobody else has achieved, anything in life only her, she comes across, as
dictating to everyone around her, domineering, she says she wanted to be a medical,
Doctor, my feeling she was not clever enough, she talks about contacts, eg,patients
when working in Psychology, that should remain private, she just cant stop blowing,
her own trumpet,so if you want to be totally bored, its the only reason ,to even
like me, partly read it, she had most of her family ,write how they felt about,
her, so what do you expect them to say, just another reason for her adulation.
not sure how this book was ever published,so dont waste your money ,on this garbage.
