They also seem more energetic. Their excrement is no longer all nasty and colored with artificial dye either. Highly recommend!!!
I almost lost my bond with my budgie when trying to convert him to pellets, I have tried harrisons, roudybush and zupreem and my vet and people online and sales reps at the companies told me how to convert by mixing with seeds and slowly going 100% but I could see how miserable my budgie was and after 3 months of putting him through that I couldn't do it anymore! I found Dr Harvey's and decided to order it. When it came and I opened the bag I could tell right from the smell that it is something I myself could eat. 11 different seeds, 9 different nuts, 9 different vegetables, 5 different fruits - my budgie eats healthier than most people in this world. You may notice that they don't eat everything at first, just give it time - they slowly try out the other foods in the mix over the months. I give my budgie 3 spoons in a fresh clean cup every morning and even if there is a bit of waste I know he is getting the best meal and he is getting enough food and I can tell when he eats that he is VERY HAPPY.
The first day you give your budgie Dr harvey's he/she may fly to the cup, and peck at it then fly away, that's because budgies do not like to try new foods right off the bat. But just leave it there and by the end of the day when they get hungry enough they will go for it. And when my budgie took his first bite, I could literally see his facial expression change, and 2 seconds later I see him dive head first into his food cup.
Everyone that sees my my budgie can see that he is much happier and healthier than most budgies out there. He has good muscle definition and his feathers are crisp and the colors are gorgeous. This food is only about 15$ for a 2lb bag here on amazon and if you go to petsmart most of their crappy foods are also 15$ a bag. 1 2lb bag last me about 1.5 months, so if you love your budgie then can't you spend less than 15$ a month to give him the best food on the planet? Oh and btw if you go for harrisons "organic" pellets, you'd be spending about 13 bucks for just 1 lb bag and as I mentioned earlier, pellets are completely rubbish. Also "goldenfeast" makes a parakeet food but I do not recommend it because the way they prepare the blend if you do not use the food within a few weeks the micro organisms in the food start growing into BUGS that you can see!! It's really gross and freaky and I do not recommend it to anyone, seriously - FEED YOUR BUDGIE DR HARVEYS.
First of all, it smells great. It smells fresh, not rancid like some other seed mixes. It smells of different seeds and even fruits.
Second, it's not quite as messy as other seed mixes because it doesn't have as many seeds with hard hulls. My birds manage to spread hulls all over the place, but when they are softer, they float gently to the bottom of the cage, rather than projecting across the room.
Third, the birds love it! I feel like I'm feeding them something they enjoy.
As many have mentioned, my 5 birds have zero interest in the large chunks of dried fruit that are included, but that's fine. I think it's kind of funny to watch them tossing the big chunks they don't want on to the floor.
The vendor delivered the product on April 8 (quickly) and the packaging was intact and neat, unlike other Amazon packages I've received.
