Dr. Hauschka Eye Balm: Soothing, Moisturizing, and Protecting...But Leaves a Waxy Shine Behind
Given that this Dr. Hauschka eye treatment is billed as a "balm", I should have been prepared for the waxy consistency...but somehow it wasn't quite what I was expecting. (It actually reminds me of Carmex medicated lip balm -- it has a similar color and texture.) While I didn't care for the waxy shine it leaves under my eyes, I have to admit that it does a *really* effective job of protecting the skin...and I can see how it would be perfect for anyone exposed harsh weather conditions (chilly, windy winters or hot, dry summers).This eye balm is made from various plant oils and botanical extracts, along with beeswax and cocoa seed butter. Given its waxy consistency, it can be a little difficult to remove from the pot if you have longer fingernails; and it can be a challenge to apply to delicate under-eye skin if your fingers are dry and a bit roughened (as mine are). It doesn't glide across or melt into the skin the way creams do; the rough pads of my fingertips end up tugging against my under-eye area. But once this balm is on the skin, it feels very refreshing and soothing, and it does an excellent job of locking in moisture.Because of the waxy shine this leaves behind, I wouldn't apply it before heading to work, classes, dinner, etc. But I wouldn't hesitate to use it on days when I'll be spending time outdoors, especially when hiking, biking, boating, etc.
