The Dickie's jacket/hoodie plus these boots and a pair of jeans have been what I've been wearing for a bit now. The aforementioned all black looks great, people tell me. I was hoping to look less like a narc since I drive an ex police car and used to wear tactical looking boots, but I gotta say I do get more looks with these boots ;P. But in all seriousness the extra looks are due to the fact that they look good.
From the factory the laces were started incorrectly. Not a catastrophic mess. No big deal at all, relaced them. The laces seem weak, just cheaply made and didn't want to lay flat. I've got a pair of black/yellow striped laces that I bought on accident with the exact same color yellow found on the Docs.
Biggest problem is the fact the the tongues ride to the sides without fail and it happens fairly quickly too. Haven't tried any solutions for the problem yet but that's why one star is gone, and the other is because of the laces that will break when you don't have your 550 paracord or extra laces in your car. I rarely clean my footwear but just a moist paper towel will wipe most anything off of these boots, although I do plan on treating them with some mink oil after consulting Dr. Martens.
I'd like to update in regard to the tongues riding to the sides. I've worn these for quite some time now, and they are broken in. This issue still persists. It is fairly troublesome having to correct the tongues so often and I feel as though this is a design flaw. I still wear them very often but this issue has become quite a nagging annoyance.
Overall, I like the way they look and feel (when the tongues are centered), but have been left dissatisfied due to the boots having the issue with their tongues. For the money I paid, I would expect to not have an issue of this magnitude.
I cant wait for it to Rain/Snow again just so that I can wear these! However they can also be worn any day since the material isn't a thick suffocating material, I think they'd do best in heavy wet weather though.
I am pleased with this purchase and will look into owning many more Dr Martens boots!
I picked these up on a warehouse deal for $42 bucks after seeing these in person at Journey's for $99. A size 9 is a little big for me in Docs, as all my brogue shoes are in a US 8/UK7. Went with the 9's as that is what I remember when I used to wear Doc boots. They fit great, but a hair big. I wear big socks with them and that does the trick.
The breakin is super quick. I got yesterday & wore all day & have on today as well and they feel great. I LOVE the low profile sole as that was one thing I hated about Docs in the past. The sole was always big & chunky.
You will not go wrong with Tobias boots from Dr. Martens. They kick ass...
